What You Need To Know:

ELLIOT THE LITTLEST REINDEER is a cute, value packed animated comedy about a miniature horse named Elliot who wants to be a reindeer. When one of Santa’s reindeer retires, Santa holds a contest summoning reindeer from around the world to find the one who will join his team to pull his sleigh. In North Dakota, Little Elliot, a miniature horse at a petting zoo, wants to be a reindeer. With help from two friends, he hitches a ride to the North Pole. When they arrive, Elliot and his friends learn a jealous elf wants to take over the North Pole. Will Christmas occur or not?

ELLIOT THE LITTLEST REINDEER has very good animation and a very strong plot. Like people, each animal has an area where they indulge in bad behavior, such as lying, cheating, disloyalty, but each one learns to get over their naughtiness and to be nice to try to save the day. This is a good lesson for little children. Of course, you need to remind them Santa is a fanciful figure, but ELIOT THE LITTLEST REINDEER does better than most in avoiding magical thinking.

More Detail:

ELLIOT THE LITTLEST REINDEER is a cute and value packed animated movie about a miniature horse named Elliot who wants to be a reindeer. A lot of moral values triumph over the typical selfish propensities of people and even anthropomorphic animals to succeed at any cost.

The plot problem is set up when a reporter asks Santa Claus whether he’s going to be able to pull off Christmas this year or have the same problem he’s had the year before and other years in the past of reindeer retiring and dropping out. One reindeer, Blitzen, does drop out because he wants to retire. So, Santa stages a contest summoning reindeer from all over the world to find the one who will join his team to pull his sleigh.

In North Dakota, there’s the Witty Bitty petting farm that raises reindeer, goats, ponies, and other animals people can pet. It’s run by a failed baseball player named Whitlock, who’s also a very nice guy. Little Elliot, a miniature horse, wants to be a reindeer. With the help of Hazel the goat, he trains every day.

When Whitlock takes his makeshift spaceship car, made out of tractors and old Chevrolets, to take his best reindeer, DJ, to the North Pole, Hazel, and Elliot hide in the trunk. Producing very cute impersonations, Hazel pretends to be a trainer and gets Elliot into the contest. Elliot is in disguise with a funny reindeer hat.

Well, the plot thickens. We find that Lemondrop, one of the elves, doesn’t like reindeer, and just like any allegorical adversary wants to take over the top job at the North Pole.

Elliot and Hazel discover Lemondrop’s dastardly plot. DJ learns he has to be honest; animals repent of their negative propensities; and, a showdown comes. Will Christmas occur or not?
