Kanye West Donates Funds to Provide ‘Hundreds of Thousands of Meals’ to Hungry People in Los Angeles

Christian rapper Kanye West donated funds to The Dream Center, a faith-based non-profit, to provide meals that will provide “hundreds of thousands of meals” to hungry people in Los Angeles, California.

“We are indebted to Kanye for even thinking about us and with his help, we will be able to serve tens of thousands of meals,” said Matthew Barnett, Dream Center CEO.

Although reports don’t name the amount of money West gave to the organization, it’s assuredly enough to make big waves in the community.

According to KISS FM:

Although the center typically offers outreach programs, they are now open seven days a week for 11 hours a day, providing “drive-thru” meal services. The Dream Center welcomes those in need and has recently gained a lot of traction, providing free meals for all LAUSD Students displaced due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organization says that they are currently providing 7000 meals a day, and with the help of Kanye’s donation, they intend to feed hundreds of thousands of meals to the children and elderly during this time.

Day FOUR already and it’s been a remarkable turnout! We’ve been feeding thousands of families on campus AND on outreach. Door-to-door food delivery at our sites continues on strong and we are so touched by the love and joy we encounter each day! ⠀ ⠀ Many longtime friends of the Dream Center have come through to not only support us on-ground, but have made incredible donations to help continue our efforts. Thank you to our beloved friends @redturn2 @court_with_a_k, and the amazing #KanyeWest for your generosity! We’re doing our best to be there for every need and for everyone. At this time, we’re calling on local businesses, restaurants, and even individuals to partner with us so we can keep serving our city! ⠀ ⠀ We’ve seen firsthand that by coming together, we get the job done and we allow others to feel safe and taken care of during this challenging time. Thank you to everyone involved with this incredible day. You consistently prove that we are truly #bettertogether! KISS FM continued:

Kanye also chose to help an organization from his hometown of the Southside of Chicago called, We Women Empowered. Developing young leaders in the Chicago area since 1993, We Women Empowered has focused on assisting the elderly during this pandemic by providing three meals daily to individuals. The dedicated team has worked tirelessly supplying meals in the following Chicago neighborhoods: Chatham, Woodlawn, Washington Park, South Shore, Grand Crossing, Englewood, Hyde Park, Grand Boulevard, Auburn Gresham and Avalon Park.

With the donation from West, the organization now plans on expanding the reach of its network and continuing food delivery services to seniors throughout the entire crisis.
