How Actor Dean Jones Experienced a ‘Divine Visitation’ That Gave Him the Ultimate Peace

Note: This is part of our Miracles in Hollywood series.

Actor Dean Jones was raised in a Christian home and even attended a Christian college for a short time. After serving in the Navy during the Korean War, he made his way to Hollywood. He rejected his faith at first, but the star came back to the Lord later in life.

Jones arrived in Los Angeles after a short time of being a radio DJ and singer. His first role in a movie came in 1956 in SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES ME with Paul Newman.

He also made an appearance in Elvis Presley’s JAILHOUSE ROCK the following year.

His career continued to take off, and Walt Disney himself wanted Jones to join the studio. Jones obliged and starred in THAT DARN CAT (1965), THE UGLY DACHSHUND, BLACKBEARD’S GHOST, and THE LOVE BUG (1968).

Jones’ life was became a whirlwind with the smashing success he was experiencing.

While looking back on his life in a 1997 interview, Jones said, “It was a fast track life. I was making $50,000 a week. I had the Ferraris and beautiful women and all the rest of what I thought would satisfy my life. And, it was empty. Really empty.”

It was an emptiness he didn’t see coming.

It wasn’t until the early 1970s that Jones realized the path in life he was going down wasn’t a good one.

Jones was in a drunk-driving accident when he said he had a “divine visitation” that gave him “a peace I had never before had but which I had longed for.”

During the same interview in 1997 with 100Huntley, he said, “I knew that if there didn’t come something that changed my life, that I would probably end up a pretty mess at some point or another. And the night that I said ‘yes’ to the lord, it changed instantly. The peace of Christ rolled over me like an ocean wave, and I’ve never been the same.”

After this moment, he started bringing other people to Christ.

Jones was a friend of Movieguide®’s and attended several of our Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala & Report to the Entertainment Industry.
