MORE THAN A VICTIM: THE ANGEL COLON AND LUIS J RUIZ STORY

"Repent and Turn to Jesus"

What You Need To Know:

MORE THAN A VICTIM:  THE ANGEL COLON AND LUIS J RUIZ STORY tells the story of two survivors of the 2016 Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. Angel and Luis tell their respective stories about that deadly night, when a heavily armed Muslim terrorist burst into the club and started shooting, killing 49 people. After that horrific night, Angel and Luis began the process of picking up their lives and figuring out their new normal. Eventually, they abandoned their homosexual lifestyles to follow Jesus. Now, they dedicate their lives to preaching Jesus to other people who are trapped in a homosexual lifestyle.

MORE THAN A VICTIM presents powerful, inspiring Christian testimonies, but relies too heavily on archival footage. The movie has a strong, uplifting Christian worldview, however. Viewers see Angel and Luis repent of their sins and find Jesus. The two men talk about prayer, forgiveness and community. The movie does describe the Pulse Nightclub shooting in detail, with scary soundbites from that night that might disturb younger viewers. MORE THAN A VICTIM also deals with some mature personal issues. So, Movieguide® advises extreme caution.

More Detail:

MORE THAN A VICTIM: THE ANGEL COLON AND LUIS J RUIZ STORY is a documentary about two survivors of a horrific 2016 homosexual nightclub shooting where a Muslim terrorist murdered 49 people and tells how the two men found Jesus and abandoned their homosexual lifestyle to reach out to struggling people with the Gospel. MORE THAN A VICTIM has a strong Christian worldview with powerful, inspiring testimonies, but the movie relies too heavily on archival footage and describes the shooting in detail, with scary soundbites.

Angel Colon and Luis Ruiz were both at the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida on June 12, 2016. During the celebratory atmosphere, a Muslim terrorist burst into the nightclub and took the lives of 49 people. Angel was shot multiple times while Luis was able to escape without any physical harm.

Angel and Luis tell their respective stories of what happened during the awful shooting. The interviews with the men are intertwined with interviews from a police officer who responded to the shooting, a therapist, a senator, a journalist, and a member of the Freedom March, all of whom had some connection to what happened that night or to the LGBTQ community.

After describing that fateful night, Angel and Luis began the process of picking up their lives and figuring out their new normal. Angel and Luis tell the story of how they gave up their homosexual lifestyles to follow Jesus Christ. Now, they have dedicated their lives to helping other people trapped in a homosexual lifestyle find Jesus. They are working to build a bridge between the church and people in the LGBTQ community to encourage them to attend church and learn about the promises of Jesus.

MORE THAN A VICTIM: THE ANGEL COLON AND LUIS J RUIZ STORY presents powerful, inspiring testimonies, but could use more heart. As such, it may leave some viewers scratching their heads wondering if there’s more to the story. The key reason for this is that MORE THAN A VICTIM relies too heavily on archival footage and fails to bridge the gap between the past and the present.

MORE THAN A VICTIM has a strong, uplifting Christian worldview, however.
