Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Receive CG Animated Reboot
By Cooper Dowd, Contributing Writer
Nickelodeon is partnering with Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen for a reboot of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. The reboot is Nickelodeon’s first-ever CG production set for theatrical release with Evan Goldberg and James Weaver producing, Jeff Rowe directing, and Brendan O’Brian writing the screenplay.
“Adding Seth, Evan and James’ genius to the humor and action that’s already an integral part of TMNT is going to make this a next-level reinvention of the property,” Viacom CBS President of Kids & Family said. “I’m looking forward to see what they do, and I know that Ramsey Naito and her team are excited to take the Nick Animation Studio into another great direction with their first-ever CG-animated theatrical.”
Although there is no decided release date, Paramount Pictures will be the movie’s distributor.
Movieguide gave Nickelodeon’s initial live-action TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES reboot from 2014 and its sequel in 2016 four stars for quality and a -1 content rating—discretion advised for older children.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is full of tongue-in-cheek humor, great jeopardy, perilous action, and terrific character insights. It’s the most entertaining, best-plotted movie of the summer. Even better, it has a very strong moral worldview with redemptive elements where bad is bad, good is good, and adolescents need to grow up and accept responsibility. There are some scary moments, so caution is advised. Otherwise, however, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is great summer fun!
The 2014 movie was even selected as one of the Best Movies for Families at the Movieguide® Awards.
As a separate deal, Nickelodeon is also teaming up with Netflix to produce a 2-D animated series based on the current RISE OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES.
