Three-Year Political Study of Movie Box Office Signals Trump/GOP Victory in 2020

A three-year study of domestic box office results for movies with conservative values versus movies with liberal/leftist values could signal a Trump/GOP victory at the polls in November.

MOVIEGUIDE®:  The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment analyzed the content of 830 theatrical movies released during the first three years of President Trump’s first term. It found that 280 movies contained strong conservative, pro-capitalist and/or patriotic content and values promoting American ideals, and 301 movies contained strong liberal/leftist content and values attacking or undermining American ideals, patriotism or capitalism.

The movies with conservative values averaged more than $78.46 million per movie at the box office in North America and Canada, more than 318% more money than movies with liberal/leftist values, which averaged less than $18.76 million per movie.

“This seems to signal a Trump/GOP victory in November,” says MOVIEGUIDE® Editor Tom Snyder, who has a PhD in Film Studies and Communications at Northwestern University, “but, as everyone knows, anything can happen in a presidential election year.

Snyder noted, however, that in 2015 and 2016, an increase in the margin of victory for movies with strong conservative content signaled Trump’s upset victory over Hillary Clinton.
