What You Need To Know:

COME PLAY is a horror movie about an autistic boy threatened by a lonely monster from a shadow world. Oliver is an autistic young boy, about age 10. Oliver has trouble talking, but he uses a special smartphone app to speak with other people. As Oliver turns the pages of a mysterious e-book about a monster named Larry, the lights around him flicker and go out, and Larry starts to manifest himself in the real world. Eventually, Larry makes it clear to Oliver’s parents he intends to grab Oliver and take him back to his world. Oliver’s parents aren’t about to let this happen. The question is, can Larry be stopped?

COME PLAY is a harrowing, spine-chilling movie with profound themes about friendship, motherhood, loneliness, and sacrifice. Larry the monster is overtly compared to a manifestation of all the loneliness in the world. Eventually, the mother becomes Oliver’s source of protection when Larry seriously injures Oliver’s father. Her solution to save Oliver, however, is bittersweet. COME PLAY also has some foul language and, of course, many scary scenes. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.

More Detail:

COME PLAY is a horror movie about an autistic boy and his parents threatened by a lonely monster from a parallel shadow world. COME PLAY is a harrowing, spine-chilling movie with profound themes about friendship, motherhood, loneliness, and sacrifice, but it has a bittersweet ending, some foul language and many scary scenes.

COME PLAY is a horror movie about an autistic boy and his parents threatened by a lonely monster from a parallel shadow world. Oliver is an autistic, mute young boy age about 10 who loves watching SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS on his smartphone. Although he goes to public school, he has a special tutor who’s trying to teach him to start talking. Oliver uses a special app on his smartphone to create sentences to talk with the teacher in his class and other people. Sadly, this makes Oliver an object of ridicule from some of the boys in his class, including his former friend, a boy named Byron.

One night, a weird, illustrated e-book for children shows up on his smartphone. Titles “Misunderstood Monsters,” the e-book is about a scary skeletal monster named Larry who wants a friend. As you turn the book’s pages on your smartphone or tablet, the lights around you start to flicker and eventually go out, and Larry starts to manifest himself in the real world.

Oliver tries to tell his parents, Sarah and Marty, about Larry the monster, but they don’t believe him at first. Eventually, however, they too see Larry start to manifest himself in the real world. Then, Larry starts speaking through Oliver’s smartphone app. He makes it clear to Sarah and Marty that he intends to grab Oliver and take him back to the parallel shadow world where he lives.

Of course, Marty and Sarah aren’t about to let Larry take Oliver. The question is, can Larry be stopped?

COME PLAY is a harrowing, spine-chilling movie with profound themes about friendship, motherhood, loneliness, and sacrifice. At one point, Larry, the monster in the story, is overtly compared to a manifestation of all the loneliness in the world. COME PLAY stresses the importance that a reliable friendship can have on a person’s life. The movie also has an interesting theme that warns viewers about the dangers of having too many screens in the house. Larry is such a powerful monster because Oliver’s house is filled with all sorts of screens and because every smartphone becomes a window through which Larry can enter the human world.

Eventually, the mother becomes Oliver’s source of protection when Oliver’s father is taken unconscious to a hospital after a violent attack from Larry. The mother’s solution to save Oliver from Larry’s clutches, however, is bittersweet, though inspiring and poignant. COME PLAY also has some four language and, of course, many scary scenes. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.
