Dolly Parton Announces Televised Christmas Special

By Cooper Dowd, Staff Writer

It’s that holly jolly, erm, Dolly, time of year.

Country music icon Dolly Parton teamed with Netflix for the Christmas movie DOLLY PARTON’S CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE and sealed a deal with CBS to bring more holiday cheer to your home.

“When Dolly Parton calls and tells you she wants to do a Christmas show, you don’t hesitate,” Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music & Live Events/Alternative & Reality for CBS, said. “A special with the multi-Grammy Award-winning, prolific song-writing, epic live performer of all time? She had us at hello. There’s only one Dolly Parton, and we are so excited to be bringing her to viewers this holiday season.”

The festive holiday program has the same title as her upcoming Christmas album: A HOLLY DOLLY CHRISTMAS.

“A Holly Dolly Christmas,” Parton’s first Christmas album in 30 years, dropped in October.

“I am so proud to be a part of the CBS family this holiday season with my new Christmas special,” Parton said.

For the CBS special, Parton will perform songs from her new album, as well as some other Christmas favorites, including hymns.

In addition to the singing, Parton will share Christmas stories and faith-based recollections of the holiday season.

A HOLLY DOLLY CHRISTMAS, produced by Sandollar Productions and NOZ Entertainment, will air on CBS television and streams on CBS All Access starting Sunday, Dec. 6, 8:30-9:30 p.m. ET and 8-9 p.m. PT.

Parton’s other Christmas project, CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE, will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 22 and stars Parton, Christine Baranski, Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams, and Jeanine Mason.

Parton previously posted on Instagram: “#ChristmasOnTheSquare is more than just a song… It’s also a musical! Watch my newest movie, directed by @therealdebbieallen and starring Christine Baranski, @jeniferlewisforreal and so many other talented folks…”
