OUT OF DEATH is a small crime thriller starring Bruce Willis. The story follows Shannon, a journalist on vacation in the mountains, who plans to spread her father’s ashes on a hike they did years before his death. However, while hiking, Shannon witnesses a drug deal between a cop and a drug dealer that goes awry. The cop notices Shannon, and the chase begins. Soon, Shannon discovers that the police department of the rural mountain town wants no witnesses. While on the run, she meets Jack Harris, a retired cop, played by Bruce Willis, who offers to help. Shannon is faced with a difficult decision, but whom can she truly trust? However, if Shannon is unwilling to trust Jack, the town’s corrupt actions could go unpunished.

OUT OF DEATH contains some moral elements, including bringing evil to justice and showing the consequences of corruption. However, the movie’s pacing, script, acting, and cinematography fail to portray a compelling story. Also, what little redemptive qualities the movie contains are marred by excessive foul language and extreme violence. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for adults.

Very strong and strong violence includes some gory action scenes, a man is shot in the head by a cop, multiple people are stabbed by a knife with lots of blood shown, and several shootouts result in people dying

More Detail:

OUT OF DEATH is a crime thriller starring Bruce Willis about a corrupt group of cops tracking down a journalist who saw them murdering a drug dealer while trying to abscond with their illicit goods.

The movie opens as Shannon and her friend drive to a trail head in a rural mountain town. Shannon plans to spread her father’s ashes on a hike they did together years before his death. She braves the trail alone and has a moment where she remembers her father. However, it starts to rain, so she heads back down the mountain.

The movie cuts to a lone pickup truck that’s supplying cocaine. A cop car pulls up next to the truck, but instead of arresting the driver, a female cop gets out and begins discussing a deal. As the cop and the dealer talk, something goes wrong, and the cop ends up shooting the man.

Unknown to the cop, Shannon records the incident on her camera. After the cop’s partner shows up to help clean up the mess, they see and capture Shannon. They agree on killing the only witness to their shady deal, but another witness comes into play.

Jack Harris is a retired cop trying to escape to the mountains. On his hike, however, he runs into the two cops holding Shannon at gunpoint. Amid the distraction, Shannon manages to escape. Despite Jack claiming he wants to help her escape the cops, Shannon doesn’t trust anyone.

With more than one witness involved, it becomes apparent that the corruption goes far beyond two dirty cops. If Shannon is unwilling to trust Jack, the town’s corrupt actions could go unpunished.
