WE WERE SOLDIERS is a true story starring Mel Gibson as Col. Hal Moore, who led the first American helicopter troops into battle against the Communist North Vietnamese in 1965. Despite some minor flaws and very strong, bloody combat scenes laced with some strong profanities, WE WERE SOLDIERS delivers a riveting drama with strong appeals to God in the Name of the Holy Christian Trinity.

In THE LEGEND OF ZORRO, Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones continue the new adventures of Zorro and his family, in a rousing story about a secret society's plot to conquer the new state of California and start a civil war in the United States. THE LEGEND OF ZORRO is filled with exciting action, humor and American patriotism, as well as a very strong Christian worldview and very strong moral values.

THE MASK OF ZORRO
THE MASK OF ZORRO includes lots of swashbuckling and a very tight plot. This handsome production features the fight for control of Mexico and California. Antonia Banderas and Anthony Hopkins put moral humanity on this old-world hero in an adaptation which features extensive swordplay and action violence as well as one grotesque scene of a man's head in a jar, but no sex, no nudity and only a few mild obscenities.

THE GIVER is an absorbing, inspiring fable with no crude content and a pro-life message, with a strong Christian, moral worldview attacking authoritarian humanist governments, mixed slightly with some light Romantic, pagan elements.

ICE AGE, an animated comedy/adventure, tells what happens when a mammoth and a sloth escaping the ice age are forced together to rescue a human baby. Though scattered with politically correct elements and some overt slapstick cartoon violence, ICE AGE has some positive moral elements and should be a big hit with all but the very, very young or easily frightened.

TRON: LEGACY - 12/10/2021
In TRON: LEGACY, the son of a computer visionary gets digitized into the computer world his father has created, where he and his father must battle a digital character bent on escaping and ruling the world with his armies. TRON: LEGACY is a much more emotional and exciting movie than the original, but there is strong action violence and references to Zen meditation that require caution.

RON’S GONE WRONG - 12/15/2021
RON’S GONE WRONG is an animated comedy about a lonely middle school boy who befriends a broken personal robot and, through adversity, learns that everybody, including robots, need a proper code to live by. RON’S GONE WRONG is a delightful comedy adventure with some brilliantly crafted, inspiring messages, but caution is advised for younger children due to some cartoon violence, lying and light rude behavior.

ENCANTO
ENCANTO is a lively animated musical about a girl living in an isolated magical village in Colombia where everyone in her family has a magical gift but her, but she becomes the only one who can save her family from losing its magic. Beautifully produced, funny and heartwarming, ENCANTO sounds like it could be filled with witchcraft, but the movie explicitly states that family is the real magic and contains overt Christian references, themes, images, and symbolism, which form the backdrop to the story and plot.

LITTLE WOMEN is Louisa May Alcott's classic story of four sisters in Civil War era New England. While the strong religious themes in Alcott's book are toned down, the movie does contain positive Christian characters & actions, strong parental figures, chaste courtships, and especially winning performances by Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst and Claire Danes.

ALL IS LOST stars Robert Redford as a man alone on a disabled yacht in the Indian Ocean, fighting for his survival against all odds. ALL IS LOST is a superb survival tale, with an outstanding performance by Redford and only minor questionable elements warranting caution for younger children.

MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS - 12/1/2021
MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS stars Jim Carrey as a fast-talking but talented real estate salesman in New York City who inherits six live penguins and becomes the family man he should have been all along. MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS is laugh-out-loud hilarious, with a clever plot and an excellent comic turn from Jim Carrey, marred by some bathroom humor and light foul language. Even so, MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS is one of the year’s best movies.

A MATCH MADE AT CHRISTMAS is a romantic Christmas movie on Amazon Prime, Pureflix and elsewhere, in which two people with different viewpoints on life and Christmas are thrust together by a small-town, family tradition. A MATCH MADE AT CHRISTMAS is a cute, entertaining, wholesome romance, with a strong moral worldview and values, but the birth of Christ isn’t the central theme, although it has positive references to Christmas and a brief instrumental version of “Silent Night.”

In MIRACLE ON CHRISTMAS, which is available on Amazon Prime and on DVD, the holiday spirit seems distant for Mary Boyce until an unexpected visitor and a miracle change everything when her mother and siblings come to spend Christmas Day with her husband and two children. MIRACLE ON CHRISTMAS is a heartfelt drama that does a great job setting a Christmas mood and spreading the joyful message of the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
