Steve Harvey Credits ‘God’s Grace’ and Wife’s Support for Successful Marriage

By Movieguide® Staff

Talk show host and comedian Steve Harvey recently shared a love letter to his wife, Marjorie, as the couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on June 25.

In the letter, Harvey thanked Marjorie for the way she supported him through difficult times in his life, like homelessness, and pointed him back to faith.

“You are the single biggest reason outside of God’s grace that I am where I am today. You’re the one,” Harvey, 65, revealed in an issue of Good Housekeeping. “I feel like if I lost everything, you’d stay with me and we’d build it up again. As a matter of fact, I know you would.

“Nearly two decades have flown by, and I have felt lucky every single one of those days,” Harvey added.

The FAMILY FEUD host said that he first met Marjorie in 1987. However, due to his circumstances at the time, he did not continue with the relationship. However, in 2005, the couple began dating again and were married in 2007.

“The first time around didn’t pan out the way we would have wanted it to. I became homeless, I ran out of money and I got into some trouble,” he wrote. “Things went south for me, and I had no way of reaching out to you — this was before cellphones — so I just disappeared.”

But Harvey said that part of his change came from his relationship with Marjorie.

“I owe you a debt of gratitude because you simply changed my life,” he noted.

The couple is candid about their roots in the faith. Marjorie said that from an early age, her mother and grandmother became examples of how to walk in the faith.

“Both my mother and grandmother instilled a strong sense of faith in me,” Marjorie told Essence. “Our relationship with God is the centerpiece for love in our family.”

In the past, Harvey credited God for his success in comedy and TV.

“God has given me a life far beyond anything I ever dreamed about. God is, man, God is something else man,” Harvey said in 2012.

While Harvey talked about his faith in the past, he has recently promoted a new-age religion.

Movieguide® previously reported:

In a recent video called “How Steve Harvey Prays,” comedian and FAMILY FEUD host Steven Harvey claimed that there are multiple ways to Heaven.

Harvey posted the video to his YouTube channel, which shows his visit to Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the United Arab Emirates. The majority of the population follows the false teaching of Islam and prohibits Christians from praying in public or teaching the Gospel.

“There’s no one way to Heaven, no one way to paradise,” Harvey said. “It’s like television, now there’s [sic] over 800 channels on cable, and they’re all pretty entertaining. So I’m pretty sure that to get to heaven, there’s got to be more than one route. Because somebody watching another channel or taking another channel than you, they’re still getting entertained, and they probably still getting to heaven.”

Unfortunately, Harvey’s sentiment does not align with what scripture says about Heaven and salvation.
