Candace Cameron Bure recalled how she met her husband, Val, while supporting her FULL HOUSE cast members at a charity hockey game.

“We met at a charity hockey game in LA. I was 18, [and] Val was 20” Bure said. “It was a Luke Robati charity game, and it had celebrities and pros. So, Val was one of the pros, and then Dave Coulier, who played Joey on FULL HOUSE, was like the big hockey guy, so he was playing in the game.”

“[Val and I] literally met on an escalator. So he went back down [the escalator] and he was like, give me your number. And I wrote my number on a blank check,” Bure added. “And so, I was like, ‘Here you go.’ And gave him the blank check. I was just so nervous. I had never given my phone number to any guy before. But he called me the next morning at like 10 a.m. He was like, ‘Can we go to lunch?’ So we did. And the rest is history.”

The couple has since been together for nearly 30 years and share three kids. They have enjoyed a God-centered marriage where they have sacrificed much for each other. Bure even considered giving up acting after her husband revealed that seeing her acting with other men on screen can sometimes make him uncomfortable.

“It’s something that Val and I wrestled with a lot in our marriage,” Bure previously said. “[He told her] Regardless of a kiss at the end, I really don’t like watching you be close to someone else. And I get that, so we’ve had those struggles and a lot of conversations and prayer.”

Val’s feelings were even a major factor in Bure switching to almost exclusively faith-based content as those stories are much less likely to have Bure doing anything he would be uncomfortable with.

“As I’ve shifted my career [I have] been able to insert more of a faith-focus narrative in some of the movies. I always want to nod to what the real reason for the season is as a person of faith,” the Great American Family actress explained of her Christmas movies.

“I think that has been very important to me, and it doesn’t have to be over the top, but let’s at least, while we’re looking for love on the farm…let’s recognize that we celebrate Christmas because Jesus came to the world and was the Savior of the world, you know, born a baby on Earth and lived the perfect life and willingly sacrificed himself so that we can all be reconciled to God,” she continued. “Now I might not say all of that in the movie, but I want to just recognize what Christmas is all about in that sense.”

It is incredible how much the Lord has moved through Val and Bure’s relationship which all started on an escalator at a charity hockey game.
