Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker Prays Before Every Game: ‘It’s The Same Prayer Every Time’

The Tennessee Volunteers football team was recently ranked as the No. 1 team headed into the college football playoff season, GoVols257 reported.

It is the organization’s first time in the No. 1 rank since the school’s legendary season in 1998. Led by senior quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate, Hendon Hooker.

The Volunteers are 8-0 on the season, and Hooker recently took a knee pre-game to pray.

“It’s the same prayer every time. I’m a routine type of guy,” Hooker said. “Just praying over my family, thanking God for a safe travel. I pray for my brother as he had his game. … [I’m] praying for his game and their safety. Then just praying that God touches my mind, my hands, my feet, to just go out there and do what He’s blessed me to do, to put on a show.”

In a separate interview, Hooker revealed that he also makes listening to gospel music a habit.

“[I] just listen to my gospel playlist, meditate,” Hooker said. “Me and Joe, we have a devotional book that we read every day, so before the game, we’ll read one or two pages. That’s pretty much the pregame ritual.”
