CAUGHT

What You Need To Know:

A homeless man is given shelter and a job by a fish store owner and his wife. Soon, like fish caught in a net, everyone is trapped in sins of lust, adultery, greed, and deception. CAUGHT misses the mark on almost every level technically, and its dark, nihilistic worldview graphically portrayed through extreme sexual content, nudity, violence, and obscene language make this movie warrant the warning, "No fishing!"

Content:

(H, LLL, VVV, SSS, NNN, A, D, M) Low-ironic, nihilistic worldview; 39 obscenities, 2 profanities, 4 vulgarities, & urinating in alley; violent fighting that leads to a heart attack, wife-beating (not seen) & gory depiction of throat being slashed; gross repeated & flaunted adultery & masturbation; male & female nudity; alcohol use; smoking marijuana; and, lies, theft, greed, & gambling.

More Detail:

In reviewing any movie, it is important to look for the overriding question that lies behind the story. CAUGHT has such a poorly written and executed script that the only question arising is: Why would anyone actually spend money to produce a movie about a homeless man who is given a room and a job by a fish store owner and proceeds to engage in a graphically adulterous affair with the owner’s wife? The vile theme of a homeless man who cuckolds the weak patriarch was done with more savvy and humor in DOWN AND OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS.

The metaphor of fish caught in nets is expressive of the movie’s nihilistic worldview. The idea being that, like fish in the sea, some of us are “caught” in nets from which there is no escape while some are not. This is ultimately a view of hopelessness. Since there is no escape from the lusts and passions of this world, one might as well continue as he or she is doing until gutted, boned and fried. The reality is that we usually get trapped in nets of our own making when we ignore God’s will and follow our own sinful natures. And, though we may suffer for our sins, there is healing and forgiveness in Christ Jesus. Avoid this technically and spiritually bankrupt movie.
