Long-time NFL quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retired in 2022, but the football star is returning to the field in a very special way.

“Ben Roethlisberger will be back on the sidelines this Fall. The Pittsburgh Steelers legend will debut as the assistant coach of the Quaker Valley Youth (9–10-year-old) ‘Fighting Quakers.’ This changes all pre-season power rankings in 9-10 football. What an awesome opportunity for the kids! Have a great season,” the oneBURGH Facebook page shared.

Many fans praised Roethlisberger for his decision to give back.

“I love hearing of guys giving back after their careers. May his kids be coached well and may this bring joy and learning for everyone involved,” one fan wrote.

Another fan added, “This is awesome! I know the kids will enjoy having him to coach them. He’s a great man and great football player.”

“Love this! Thank you, Ben, for being so humble,” a third fan said. “You’re giving these kids memories they will cherish & talk about their whole lives!”

As a two-time Super Bowl champion (2005, 2008), six-time Pro Bowl selection (2007, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018) and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (2004), Roethlisberger was a central figure for the Steelers’ offense. He holds numerous franchise records, including most career passing yards and touchdown passes.

“Pittsburgh drafted Roethlisberger 11th overall in a legendary QB draft class that also featured Eli Manning and Philip Rivers. Like Manning, Roethlisberger went on to lead his team to a pair of Super Bowl championships (in the 2005 and 2008 seasons),” Alex Hoegler with Total Pro Sports reported.

Hoegler continued, “Roethlisberger retired as the Steelers’ all-time leader in most passing categories, including completions (5,440), passing yards (64,088) and passing touchdowns (418). Roethlisberger also compiled 165 wins as the Steelers’ QB, well ahead of Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw who sits second with 107.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Roethlisberger’s retirement and faith:

It is official, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announced his final farewell to the NFL in a video posted to social media.

After 18 seasons in the NFL, Roethlisberger hung up his jersey but thanked God for his time on the field.

“First and foremost, I need to thank the Lord for all the many blessings he’s bestowed on me,” Roethlisberger said. “Football has been a gift, and I thank God for allowing me to play it. Surrounding me with great people and protecting me through until the end with love and honor.”

“Putting that jersey on every Sunday with my brothers will always be one of the greatest joys of my life,” Roethlisberger added. “I retire from football a truly grateful man.”
