New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers can’t live without his Bible.

“One of the key factors is about my life is, I love learning new things about the Bible,” Nabers said in a video for GQ. “When Christ was on the earth, what He did, a lot of stuff like that. It also has my name on it. It’s from my mom. She got me this one. So I always keep a Bible with me.”

He continued: “I always like reading the Bible just because it’s one of the things that I thrive myself on, is my belief in Christ and having a relationship with God because God is real. He has got me through a lot of different obstacles in my life. And without Him, I wouldn’t be here today, praying when I wake up, praying at night. I have prayed to God for some things, and He has blessed me with a lot of different accomplishments, a lot of different things in my life. So it’s one of the main things I keep in my life.”

Faith in God has been a priority since he was young.

“I was taught as a little boy that you always keep God first. Anything that you ask God is not gonna always come right then and there, but it’s gonna come eventually,” he explained. “Just keep on believing.”

“I know a lot of kids are gonna remember when I say this. It’s a Saturday night, and you play the game all night. You wake up in the morning and you hear your mama got that loud Sunday church music on. And that’s to clean up,” Nabers laughed.

Last year, as Nabers entered his first season in the NFL. He spoke with WFAN Sports Radio and talked about adjusting to a different quarterback.

“It’s just about knowing him, because it’s a different arm, different rhythm, different spin on the ball, and I’m a different route runner than he’s had,” he shared. “So it’s really about that key element of trying to get on time, knowing each other, and the relationship has just been absolutely great.”

But because of his faith, Nabers knows he can do anything.

“The route trees are way different, but I think I can do anything I put my mind to if I keep faith in God; if that’s not what He wants, it’s not what He wants, but I’m sure there’s a lot of greater things down the road,” the wide receiver said. “Just trust in myself and not try to be somebody I’m not, and be where my feet are – and when I get the ball, do something with it and show my talent off.”

It’s incredible to see another pro athlete lean on his faith to push him to be the best on and off the field. The Giants take on the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday at 8:20 p.m.
