Lauren Daigle Reveals How Illness, Visions from God Inspired Career

Grammy Award-winner Lauren Daigle joined the “Biscuits & Jam” podcast to discuss how illness and visions from God inspired her career and why she created her new album.

“I grew up in church, we would go to church on Sundays,” she revealed. “When I was fifteen, I got sick with an illness. I was placed on homebound for two years and that was when I really started to learn who God was. Beyond just going to church on Sundays and the ritualistic aspect of that. That was when I really started to learn about Him in more of a relational sense.”

Daigle continued, “I was sick, and I would have all of these dreams or visions about touring and about singing and I thought ‘I must be getting cabin fever, I must be losing it cause I don’t know what all this is but God if you’re real, if You’re showing this to me, let me know it.’ And there were moments where He would confirm that over and over and over again.”

The singer shared with PEOPLE how the pandemic put this dream on hold but also inspired her self-titled album “Lauren Daigle.”

“When I was 16, I had this vision of that tour, and I could see the crowds, the lights — everything. Then it all dismantled,” Daigle told PEOPLE. “You combine the disappointment with grief and loss and the state of the world… I felt like I didn’t know myself anymore. I started developing panic attacks.”

“I found myself at rock bottom,” she added.

Through counseling, family and friends, Daigle restored her mental health and wrote her song “Thank God I Do,” which encouraged her to write again.

“I’d just be writing songs or coming up with different melodies and lyrics, and I remember thinking, ‘This is different than what people have known of me in the past, but not different from myself,'” Daigle stated. “For all the fans that have been with me in my journey from the very, very, very beginning, this is no different than a ‘You Say’ moment for me. These are other little pieces of me that you’re now going to get to learn of as well.”

She also shared her thoughts on her song “Waiting” with the “Biscuits and Jam” podcast.

“Everything is so instant,” Daigle explained. “And I think we need to write a song that actually celebrates the beauty of waiting, because when you wait for something, that’s when your passion for it actually gets to build and grow. That’s when the thing that you’re waiting for becomes more and more precious to you, because you know the value of taking time.”

“I feel like waiting in and of itself is just a beautiful gift, that sometimes we, in our instant culture, try to blaze past,” she added.

Daigle also shared that the song describes how Christians wait for Christ’s return.

“In my Christian faith, we believe that God will one day come again, that Jesus will come again, and so that portion of the bridge is a reflection of the day that he’ll be coming back again,” the singer concluded.

Movieguide® previously reported on Daigle:

“Every single decision that I’ve made in my career, I made focused on the dream,” she shared. “Focused on those visions that He showed me over and over and over and over again.”

All Daigle’s dreams were starting to come true, but 12 dates into a big tour, COVID-19 shut everything down.

“I remember feeling like, “God, what is this disappointment?’ It took me six months to literally get out of bed. I was so heartbroken because at 16, He showed something…and 12 years later, I was there to fulfill it…[and then] it all fell apart.”

Daigle continued, “I don’t know if there is anybody that has walked in with disappointment tonight, but I promise you, He can be the restorer of broken dreams…”

Now that Daigle is back onstage, she’s also ready to start releasing music. She recently announced the second half of her self-titled album will be released in September.
