Phil Robertson Says That Without God, ‘We Would Not Be Here’

Executive producers Willie and Korie Robertson shed light on their new movie THE BLIND, which tells the redemptive story of Phil Robertson—Willie’s father—before DUCK DYNASTY.

Robertson struggled with alcohol abuse for years and was unfaithful in his marriage to wife Kay. His life turned around after he found Jesus.
“I’m embarrassed by my past on one side, but on the other, I’m unashamed because my rotten sins have been bought and paid for by blood,” Robertson said in a statement about the movie. “If THE BLIND brings one person to know the power of the blood of Jesus, it was worth it.”
“The story we just felt like it was important, one to show hope and redemption, but also to go back and show you how close it was to none of this happening [if] them two had not stayed together,” Willie told Fox News Digital.
“Dad’s story is rough to tell. But the fact that he came through that, that their marriage survived that, we just thought it was a great story. I think for people hurting and people kind of losing hope, it’s the story that you can say, ‘Hey, man, there is no telling what God can do with your life if you yield to Him,’” he added.
God’s work in Phil’s life has affected the rest of his family.
“Had God not come into the life of this family, we would not be sitting here today. And now we’re getting to actually tell the whole backstory of that, of how we came to that moment,” Korie said.
“It’s very intimidating to tell your family story,” she added. “But … at the very beginning of the film, as right as it starts, it says, ‘This is a true story’ and that’s really what it is. It’s not just kind of based loosely on a true story. It’s actually the true story of the Robertson family. So we had to get it right. And, you know, the whole family was really involved in telling the story and making sure the story was told in the way that, honors the story and honors the family.”
Phil shared his thoughts on the movie in an Instagram post.
“This is the first time the whole family has gotten together on camera since Duck Dynasty. I have to say there were some emotions, and I wouldn’t classify myself as the emotional type, you know,” he wrote.
“You’ve heard me say that sharing this part of my story is somewhat embarrassing to me, but I’ve come to peace with it,” he continued. “In Revelation 12:11 it says ‘And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.’”
“If my testimony can give hope to someone else who is struggling, then it will all be worth it,” Phil continued. “If they can see God redeem such a man as I was then perhaps, they will believe that he can do the same thing for them. He can and he will if you let him.”
“I love my family and even though some of these stories are painful to relive I’m so thankful that there was joy on the other side of sorrow. I’m thankful for forgiveness, redemption, and a family that can come together after all these years and share some laughs and possibly some tears,” Phil concluded.
THE BLIND releases in theaters Thursday, September 28.
