Marrs Family Honors World War II Veterans in Washington D.C.

FIXER TO FABULOUS star Jenny Marrs recently took a family vacation to Washington, D.C., where she and her family learned more about the United States’ history and honored World War II veterans.

Marrs wrote on Instagram, “We spent the weekend in our nation’s capital where we wore out our shoes from walking (literally for a couple of us), visited the monuments, memorials and museums, and we learned more about the foundations our country was built upon.”

“The highlight for every one of us (with the exception of Luke who would choose the ‘spike-a-saurus’ at the Smithsonian) was happening upon an honor flight of veterans at the WWII memorial,” she continued. “What an immense privilege it was to witness the honor given to this group of heroes.”

“We were able to thank them for their service and hear their stories,” Marrs concluded. “We were able to say thank you for allowing us to freely stand on this ground as the generations who came behind their valiant bravery. We are the ones they fought to protect. And we are the ones who commit to honor their service and their sacrifice.”

Many fans commented on her post, sharing their appreciation for the veterans.

“When Honor Flight was still in its infancy in the early 2000’s, my 3 boys and I would head to Dulles to be part of the Welcoming committee,” one fan began. “It warmed my heart to see my boys jump in and help unload wheelchairs for these heroes of the Greatest Generation. In fact, this experience was even part of their college entrance applications — it touched each one of them differently but in profound ways.”

“Love this! The Honor Flight is an amazing experience,” another follower wrote. “I accompanied my dad in 2015 and it was one of his (and my) most favorite memories ever. He passed away in May and was buried with his Honor Flight hat. I’ll always be thankful for that time together.”

The HGTV stars frequently show their support for veterans and the United States, even putting an American flag on every house they renovate.

“It’s important for us to place an American flag on every house in honor of everyone who has served our country; including my amazing Father-in-law and my Papa,” Jenny shared.

She thanked veterans for their service in a Veterans’ Day post last year.

“We honor all Veterans today and everyday,” she shared on Instagram. “Thank you for the all of the sacrifices you’ve made for our country. You leave your families for long periods of time and put your life on the line in order to defend and protect all of us. Thank you.”

Movieguide® recently reported on the Marrs family:

Jenny Marrs just gave fans a sneak peek into her upcoming book “House + Love = Home,” reflecting on her family’s own home.

“When I wrote these words two winters ago, I had no way of knowing we would be reworking the spaces inside our home so soon,” the FIXER UPPER star wrote. “Yet, as I read them afresh today, I’m overwhelmingly grateful for the life we have built and continue to build right here in our little corner of the world…”

Marrs then shared an excerpt from the book.

“The life we have built here can be messy and is certainly a lot of work, but, gracious; it’s full of joy,” she wrote. “Our memories have seeped into the walls, and these floors echo with the thrill of first steps and kitchen dance parties. Just as the biting cold of winter will eventually give way to the gentle warmth of spring and the sticky heat of summer, our home will continue to grow and change and evolve with the seasons of life.”
