10 Animated Movies That Promote Perseverance for Children

Perseverance is a life skill that every child should acquire. Now more than ever, the world needs kids who can stick it out when the going gets tough. This curated list features films with tenacious characters who don’t give up when obstacles arise. Whether it’s a rat determined to become a chef or a robot going the distance for love, children will enjoy watching their favorite characters fight to accomplish their goals, no matter the challenge.

MEET THE ROBINSONS is an animated movie about a boy genius, Lewis, who escapes from a villain into the future, where he has to rebuild a time travel ship before a mysterious, eccentric family from the future disappears. MEET THE ROBINSONS tugs at the heartstrings and tickles the funnybone. It also has a very strong moral worldview.

RATATOUILLE

RATATOUILLE is a wonderful, savory concoction from the incredible Pixar team in an incredible, but delightful story about a country rat who pursues his dream of culinary greatness among the gourmet restaurants of Paris. Some of the cartoon violence skews toward older children and teenagers, and some moral points are ignored by the dramatic action, but RATATOUILLE has a brilliant light Christian worldview with strong moral elements and very strong sentiments favoring a capitalist meritocracy.

FINDING DORY, the animated sequel to the classic family movie FINDING NEMO, shows Dory suddenly remembering she has a mommy and a daddy and getting help from her friends, both old and new, to reunite with them. FINDING DORY is another heartwarming, funny, whimsical fish story from Pixar and Disney showing that family and friends make life worth living.

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY

In MONSTERS UNIVERSITY, Mike and Sulley return to the big screen, this time to attend college together. MONSTERS UNIVERSITY has a lot of heart and soul, with a strong moral worldview and many laughs, but some monsters may be scary for very young children.

THE LITTLE MERMAID

THE LITTLE MERMAID is an allegorical movie with strong Christian overtones. When love induces Ariel to make a bad deal with Ursula the sea-witch so that she can try to win the heart of the human Prince Eric, King Triton sacrifices himself to save his daughter. The film is superbly colorful, incredibly well-animated and in two adorable musical numbers, "Under the Sea" and "Kiss the Girl," the sea literally becomes a living orchestra.

FROZEN (2013)

FROZEN is an animated comic fantasy from Disney about a princess who must convince her sister, the queen, to bring summer back after she uses magic powers to freeze the kingdom. FROZEN is not only a funny, entertaining movie, with incredible animation, its highly redemptive, moral premise shows that true love is sacrifice.

PIGLET'S BIG MOVIE

PIGLET'S BIG MOVIE is an absolutely adorable, highly moral and redemptive animated movie about Winnie the Pooh and his friends, who find out how important a role small little Piglet plays in their lives.

WALL-E

WALL*E, the latest animated feature from Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures, is about a lonely, lovelorn robot who has the key to the future of the human race and earth. If you’ve been waiting for entertainment that would lift you up, carry you to the outer reaches of imagination, inspire you, fill you with love, joy and happiness, and leave you with a great fantastic crescendo, you might want to see WALL*E.

CHICKEN RUN

JONAH – A VEGGIETALES MOVIE

JONAH – A VEGGIETALES MOVIE tells the time-honored Bible story of Jonah and the Whale in a fun, silly, delightful, and entertaining story starring Bob the Tomato, Archibald Asparagus and the Pirates Who Do Nothing. Clearly plotted turning points, wonderful songs and terrific animation all build to tell this meaningful tale of mercy and compassion.
