What You Need To Know:
In GADJO DILO, a Frenchman named Stephane is searching for his father’s favorite singer, in order to know his father better. Stephane winds up in a rural gypsy community in Romania, where he befriends an emotional old drunk, depressed about his imprisoned son, and a brash and crude gypsy woman. They help Stephane in his search, but Stephane finds out more about himself than he does about his father.
The acting in GADJO DILO is quite good. Particularly noteworthy is Isidor Serban playing the drunk and highly emotional old gypsy. The movie’s portrayal of the Romanian gypsies’ earthy lifestyle is colorful, depicting in detail their music, their dance, their intense emotions, and their humble lifestyle. Many viewers may want to know more about Stephane’s own father, however. The movie’s story also was shot in a confusing way, with many jump cuts from scene to scene that made it difficult to follow the plot. In addition, the overuse of crude language, expressions and behavior, including obscenities, was inappropriate and offensive. The gypsies in the movie also have superstitious beliefs in many spirits. This may upset many viewers, who probably will also dislike the movie’s explicit nudity
