Angel Studios announced it will release THE STRANGER’S CASE, a story of hope, in theaters this December.
“Set against the backdrop of the Syrian Civil War, the film follows a pediatric surgeon, Amira (Yasmine Al Massri), and her daughter, whose lives intertwine with five families across four continents in a chain reaction of tragedy, resilience, and hope,” a synopsis of the film reads, per Deadline. Its title comes from “a poignant speech in Sir Thomas More defending displaced peoples.” The ensemble cast includes Omar Sy, Yahya Mahayni, Ziad Bakri, Constantine Markoulakis and Jason Beghe.
THE STRANGER’S CASE was inspired by director Brandt Andersen’s short film REFUGEE.
“I am honored and grateful to partner with Angel to share THE STRANGERS’ CASE with a global audience,” Andersen said in a press release. “I cannot wait for everyone to see the hard work of this amazing cast and crew on the big screen. This film is deeply personal, and I believe its message of shared humanity is more important now than ever.”
Chief Distribution Officer at Angel, Jared Geesey, added, “Stories that amplify light like THE STRANGERS’ CASE are for global mainstream audiences. “Brandt Andersen’s vision to inspire compassion and understanding resonated with the Angel Guild, and we’re thrilled to bring this masterpiece to our audience.”
THE STRANGER’S CASE Instagram announced, “We are so excited to announce that THE STRANGERS’ CASE is coming to a theater near you 12.25.2025! @angelstudios_inc”
In addition to his work on the film, Andersen is also an activist “who has worked extensively with refugees in Syria, Jordan, and beyond.”

THE STRANGER’S CASE has already earned critical acclaim after it debuted at the 2024 Berlinale Film Festival. It won the Amnesty International Film Award. It also earned the audience award at SiciliAmbiente Film Festival in Italy.
“Thank you to the festival and the audience at the @siciliambiente film festival in Sicily! It’s the highest honor when the audience votes for us. This movie is for you after all,” the film’s Instagram account shared.
