Will Reeve, son of the late actor Christoper Reeve, brought a little reminder of his dad to the recent premiere of DC’s new SUPERMAN movie.

“It was just really fun, everyone was incredibly welcoming and excited about this new movie,” the GOOD MORNING AMERICA correspondent said of the movie’s Hollywood premiere at the TCL Chinese Theater.

Reeve added, “I had an homage to him [his dad] that I didn’t tell anyone about: I was wearing his cufflinks.”

And that wasn’t the only connection the premiere had to the late SUPERMAN star — the event took place at the same theater where 1978’s SUPERMAN premiered.

“I’m not sure I had known that going in. It just made it more special,” Reeve said. “I do have a connection to this character, this franchise and movie through my dad. He defined the role for so many people for so many years. So, to be walking literally in his footsteps was something special to me.”

Reeve even has a small cameo in the movie, which he confirmed to TMZ last summer.

“I know the folks making the film, and they’ve been so kind to me and my family, and I had a free day so we made it [happen],” he said

David Corenswet, who plays this latest iteration of the iconic superhero, told PEOPLE that Reeve is a “very sweet and encouraging and positive guy.”

“It would be odd to say that he gave us his stamp of approval because he would be the first to say that that’s not his place to approve or disapprove,” the actor continued. “But when you have somebody like him on set who’s excited at what they’re seeing and who is excited for you, that’s a very encouraging sign and means a lot.”

Corenswet elaborated on Reeve in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “Will is great. He is the Superman type for obvious reasons. He’s tall, he’s handsome, and he’s got a great smile.”

“Having him show up and give his support in that moment was very heartwarming,” the actor continued. “He also got to meet my kid when she was only a few months old. She happened to be on set that day, too. I don’t think she’ll remember it, but that was a nice little thing, as well, a little parallel.”

Seeing SUPERMAN on the big screen once more is an exciting prospect for comic book fans — and a moving reminder of his late father for Reeve.

SUPERMAN arrives in theaters on July 11.
