Survivalist Bear Grylls wants to be remembered for one thing: sharing the gospel with others.
He does just that through his new book that tells the story of Jesus, titled The Greatest Story Ever Told.
“I would give up everything to have done in my work world…every Everest summit, every Emmy, all of these sort of things. They pale into insignificance in terms of places in my heart compared to this because it’s history, it’s His story, it’s a story of Christ written in a way that is accessible,” he told Premier Christianity’s Sam Hailes of his book.
“If I could only be remembered for one thing, this would be it,” Grylls added. “And it’s the one that I have the greatest hope and ambition for and putting the most sort of time, love and energy into. And like I say, I don’t do actually do many of these sort of things. I do it because I really want people to experience this story.”
Part of the book’s synopsis reads, “The incredible true story about a Galilean stonemason who changed the course of the world forever. Beautifully told through the eyewitness accounts of those who knew him best. This real-life story will never leave you.”
Grylls hopes the story will transform people’s lives, saying, “As with me and so many people, we know and love the story changes us.”
He emphasized that sentiment on Instagram.
“My dream is that every person on the planet gets introduced to this true, life-changing story of love, courage, sacrifice and rescue,” he wrote.
People in the comment section expressed their hope for the book’s success, “This feels bigger than a book — it’s a calling. Just ordered mine, and I’m praying it reaches every soul that needs it. Proud of you, brother.❤️🙌” one person said. Another fan added, “I did my devotion this morning and when you popped up for the daily video. I got so excited I had no idea you are disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ tooo!!!! Yay.”
Grylls has been open about his faith.
Although he was raised in a Christian home, it wasn’t until he was older that he developed a personal relationship with Jesus. When his grandfather died, he reached out to God and has been living for him since.
Previously, Grylls said, “Faith is personal. It’s about being held, being forgiven, finding peace—and that is a quiet strength that can sustain you through the storms.”
The Greatest Story Ever Told is now available for purchase as of June 19.
