Bear Grylls Baptized in Jordan River: ‘Always a Dream of Mine’
By Movieguide® Contributor
MAN VS. WILD star Bear Grylls took a trip to the Jordan River to be baptized in the same river as Jesus.
“It had always been a dream of mine to get in the water that Jesus was baptised in by my hero John the Baptist,” Grylls shared on X. “The story is so amazing, & it seems wherever Jesus went, that new birth, new life, a new vision followed. Luke (in the bible) was probably a Syrian doctor before he met Jesus. He writes a reliable, poignant account of his life. It’s short. I like it.”
Jesus’s baptism is recorded in Luke 3:21-22. It reads:
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Grylls is very open about his faith.
In a previous interview with The Christian Post, Grylls said Jesus “would really struggle with 99% of churches nowadays.”
“Our job in life is to stay close to Christ and drop the religious, drop the fluff, drop the church if you need to because that means so many different things to different people anyway,” he explained. “Keep the bit of church which is about community and friends and honesty and faith and love. All the masks, performances, music and worship bands and all of that sort of stuff—I don’t think Christ would recognize a lot of that.”
In a previous photo shared on Instagram of an AI-generated Jesus and the disciples, Grylls wrote, “This image of Jesus taking a selfie, created quite a storm when it first came out, but from what I have learnt about this refugee & renegade, is that Jesus truly was a wild one. He was totally non-religious, 100% free, fun, loving & insanely generous and kind.”
“Wherever He went He healed and cared for the poor & sick. And He always hung out with those who society had shunned,” he added.
He then referenced Matthew 9:10-13 (MSG), which reads, “While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Grylls’ faith:
While MAN VS. WILD star Bear Grylls has survived many of Earth’s most desolate and dangerous places, he recently shared that his “greatest adventure” is his faith.
“It is a sign of great strength to need Jesus,” Grylls shared.
As a young boy, faith came naturally to Grylls—“a simple comfort, unquestioning and personal.” But as he grew up, he found faith “tedious, judgmental, boring and irrelevant.”
It wasn’t until the death of his godfather that Grylls rediscovered his relationship with God.
“God, if you’re like you were when I used to know you, will you be that again? Comfort me,” he prayed at the time.
“My faith is about being held, comforted, forgiven, strengthened and loved. Faith in Christ has been the great empowering presence in my life, helping me walk strong when so often I feel weak,” he shared.
“If I had to sum up the secret of my survival in four words,” he wrote, “it would be a combination of heart, hope, doggedness and faith.”
