TWILIGHT’s Nikki Reed sounds the alarm on children’s safety and big tech.
“I’m noticing fewer and fewer people wanting to post their children online, which tells me a conversation is quietly percolating — a shared concern that many are starting to feel about the unknowns of the internet,” the actress wrote on social media.
“With the rise of AI, rapid tech evolution, and growing worries about privacy and safety, plus apps that now include features like exact location sharing, I’m seeing more and more social media accounts moving their content to ‘close friends’ if they want to share their kids’ faces, or making their accounts private altogether, NOT because they don’t want to share their sweet babes, but because they’re now concerned about the lacks of laws in this space. Parents shouldn’t have to fear this,” she said.
She explained that repercussions from innocent posts can go beyond what anyone can anticipate.
“No one else should be allowed to share other people’s children online without parental consent,” Reed said. “For example, did you know there are accounts that solely exist to share content of other people’s children? Why don’t guidelines deem this inappropriate/shut down those pages?”

“We need to help social media platforms understand the importance of creating rules that truly reflect parents’ concerns, in a time when technology moves faster than laws can keep up, so those who do want to share can do it with ease, and those who don’t, can feel protected as well,” she continued.
Reed is very vocal about topics she’s passionate about, especially concerning parenting.
She shared a photo of a sweater her children wear to social events, which says, “No Instagram please!”
She previously told SheKnows that moms should be kinder to themselves.
“I feel like your body at some point just kicks into gear and gets you into a space where it knows how to take you to the finish line,” she said. “I think moms need to pat ourselves on the back a little bit and say, ‘Hey, you are doing something incredible, and your body has done something incredible.’”
In February, Reed gave a rare peek into her life as a mom of two.
“Raising humans. Putting the farm back together. 18 hour days. Taking care of animals after rains, floods and mud like we have never seen before. If I haven’t responded to a call, text or call, forgive me, these days are LONG!” she said.
She told E! News in May, “I can’t personally envision a life without that connection to plants and soil. In this day and age, we’re getting closer and closer to falling into full tech worlds. No matter how hard we try to shelter our kids from that, we’re growing up in the age of tech, and I think the only way to really combat that is through nature.”
Reed and her husband, actor Ian Somerhalder, love their life away from Hollywood.
“I live in my cowboy boots,” Somerhalder said in 2023. “We produce most of our own food. It’s unbelievable when you see these amazing creature life forms and how they all live on the farm together is really special.”
Whether Reed is tending to her farm or speaking out for her kids, she reminds us that sometimes the most important thing we can do is protect what matters most.
