News anchor and host of the show BIG BROTHER Julie Chen Moonves opened up about her faith and the power of prayer in a recent conversation with Movieguide®’s Kaelii Williams.

“You know, when they hear you’re not trying to hit them over the head with your beliefs, but your intention is to have God and love take over the space, and your intention is to love one another,” Moonves said of praying for others. “And who would turn down a prayer if someone says, ‘May I pray for you?’ or ‘I’m going to pray for you?’ …if they haven’t acknowledged their faith walk yet, whether people realize it or not.”

While Hollywood isn’t known for prayer, Moonves takes a moment before going on air to talk to God.

“What lately has been happening, and I don’t know why, but it always kind of takes me aback, is I like to say a prayer before we go on live television on BIG BROTHER,” she explained. “And before a prayer…we hold hands, and we ask God to bless the broadcast, bless the house guest, the staff and crew, and for us to have the wisdom to just follow in His will and follow His light. And I have had people say to me from the audience, like, ‘Wow. Like, that was powerful.'”

She added, “People don’t traditionally think of Hollywood as a place where people will shout the name Jesus from a mountaintop.”

“We are all here by the grace of God, living today and being here [in] another season. You know, having employment right now in a business in a town that feels like there’s so few jobs to be had. So, it is a blessing. It is a blessing to be thankful for and acknowledge, and gotta give Him all the praise, honor and glory,” Moonves said.

This goes along with Ephesians 2:8-9, which says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Chen recently appeared on Season 4 of the JESUS CALLING series on UP Faith and Family. In an Instagram post, she talked a little bit about her faith journey, which she shared more in depth on the show.

“I was like a baby learning how to crawl,” she explained of her prayer life. “I got more comfortable with the power of God. Then I knew I could pray any time anywhere…if you don’t put God first, what do you have?”

Moonves’ faith is an encouragement that although Hollywood is filled with so much darkness, those who shine brightly for God in the industry certainly make a difference for His kingdom.
