BOSTON BLUE is set to premiere next month, and cast members can’t wait for BLUE BLOODS fans to see all the spinoff procedural drama has in store.

“We will understand what brings Danny to Boston and how important it is,” Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, explained, “and why that’s enough reason for him to stay. Finding out that his son is close to a family that is very reminiscent of his own, while they have their own faith and tradition, does create a sort of safe place for to get what he’s missing. It’s a very emotional end of the first episode.”

BOSTON BLUE will follow Danny as he leaves his NYPD position for a new role with the Boston Police Department. He lands a new partner, Detective Lena Peters (Sonequa Martin-Green), who comes from a “prominent law enforcement family.”

TV Insider explained, “When the series opens, Danny has transferred to the Boston PD after his son Sean has a crisis at the BPD academy. The Silvers, a close-knit law enforcement-filled family, befriend the homesick Sean, whom their son Jonah met during police training, inviting him over for dinner.”

Martin-Green described the show as “full of heart. The franchise is built on family, loyalty and law enforcement, and I want to do the character and the story justice. We want to make sure families who watch really connect with us.”

Several months ago in a post to Instagram, Wahlberg shared his excitement for the new show and announced that the BLUE BLOODS Instagram page would become the BOSTON BLUE page.

“Hey Blue Bloods fam…it’s Donnie. Just want to take a second to say how much I appreciate you all. For over a decade and a half, you’ve shown up and supported and that means the world to me,” he began. “Now I’ve got an exciting update. We’re going to use this page for my new show BOSTON BLUE where the story of Danny Reagan will continue.”

Then Martin-Green jumped into the frame. “I have a partner named Lena Silvers, Sonequa Martin-Green,” Wahlberg continued. “I’m so excited to give you all the updates, sneak peeks, and so much more. BOSTON BLUE is a brand-new chapter built on a strong foundation. It’s a different story with all the same heart and all the same love and all the same family at its core.”

BOSTON BLUE is set to premier Oct. 17 on CBS.
