TikTok’s algorithm is set to be copied and retrained on user data following a new deal meant to secure its future in the US.

“On Monday, White House officials said that the US business software company Oracle would license a copy of TikTok’s recommendation algorithm as part of the deal,” the Guardian reported. “The partnership expands on Oracle’s existing management of TikTok’s trove of data collected about its US users.”

The BBC noted that this new deal “will be a win for the app’s US users and citizens” and that Oracle “would take on a comprehensive role in securing the entirety of the app for American users.”

For example, Oracle would monitor TikTok to ensure its content was free from any outsider manipulation.

The fate of TikTok has been up in the air for the last year as the US government continues to extend the deadline for the app to divest itself of its Chinese parent company ByteDance.

President Trump is expected to sign this new deal this week, facilitating the sale between ByteDance and a group of American investors.

NBC News reported that a senior White House official confirmed that “once the deal is implemented, TikTok’s U.S. operations would be run by a new joint-venture company. ByteDance, TikTok’s current China-based owner, will hold less than 20% of the stock of the new company.”

“This deal does put America first,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News. “And let me just be very clear. This deal means that TikTok will be majority-owned by Americans in the United States. There will be seven seats on the board that controls the app in the United States, and six of those seats will be Americans.”

Trump has also praised the deal that’s been put together, telling reporters in the Oval Office, “It’s also controlled by very powerful and very substantial American people, all American, by the way, all American people.”

He continued, “The TikTok deal is well on its way, as you know, and the investors are getting ready. And I think China wanted to see it stay open too. They wanted to see it.”

“Now, that deal just needs to be signed, and the president’s team is working with their Chinese counterparts to do just that,” Leavitt added.

The potential deal is still up in the air, but it’s looking like TikTok is here to stay in America!
