A rumor on social media circulated that Nike cut off their deal with Kai Cenat, one of the biggest live streamers in history, because he began to talk about his faith in Jesus Christ.

That, however, isn’t true.

One Instagram post reported the false claim as true, saying, “Kai Cenat was asked by guest JiDion how much Nike had offered him to stop speaking about his faith. Kai responded that Nike offered him 500 million dollars to stop talking online about Jesus Christ and Christianity — an offer he refused, choosing to remain faithful to his beliefs. This conversation has brought renewed attention to earlier reports that Nike ended its partnership with Cenat after concerns that his outspoken Christian faith appeared ‘too spiritual’ for the brand.”

“While Nike never officially cited religion as the reason, the situation has led many Christians to reflect on the challenges of living out their faith while navigating the expectations of major corporations,” the post continued.

And while that post might seem legit, the claims are false. Cenat went live on Twitch on July 17 to confirm that he did not lose his Nike deal.

He begged his fans to stop falling for the typical “clickbait.” He even went further to prove that “Nike representatives reached out to him to confirm their deal was still intact after seeing the rumors circulate,” according to Relevant Magazine.

Cenat signed his deal with Nike in February 2024.

“I would like to announce that we are officially a part of the Nike family,” Cenat said on a stream in 2024, per Complex. “This has been a long time waiting.”

This incident yet again proves why you need to do your research when you see news circulate online.

Creators love to get views and clicks because they generate income, and they will go to whatever extent to do so. Cenat, even though this story circulated online for a few weeks, has not shied away from sharing about his faith on his livestreams.

It seems that Nike’s deal with the livestreamer isn’t going anywhere, and it would be hypocritical of Nike to cut ties with Cenat over faith-based comments since many current and former Nike athletes like Rayssa Leal, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Russell Wilson often proclaim the name of Jesus.

As for the internet, stay vigilant and do your research before believing everything you read online.
