HAPPY’S PLACE stars Melissa Peterman and Pablo Castelblanco are excited for fans to see the all-new Season 2.
“It’s exciting when you bring in somebody new to it,” Peterman told Movieguide® of working with Reba McEntire again as well as new castmates. “It’s like, it’s the comfort of having the past and then the excitement of something in the future. So it blended really well.”
“I think from day one, Pablo and I — at least for me, I felt, oh, oh, this is going to be fun. I’m gonna have so much fun with him too,” Peterman continued. “So I got to come into this having the comfort of a buddy and a BFF, and then also, you know, have the lovely thing of getting to bring new people into that world.”
Castelblanco says his character, Steve, will grow and step out of his “comfort zone” in the new season.
“I think that’s what people are gonna be excited for. Season 2 is just Steve doing maybe things that he’s passionate about, bolder and a little bit more comfortable with himself and with his friends, and he like probes a little more,” the actor explained. “We also see a good friend, I think.”

“Steve’s a good friend,” Castelblanco added. “He might be teasing you along the way, but a good friend as well.”
Now that the writers have more familiarity with the actors and characters, Season 2 will better play into each actor’s talents.
“So when the writers know you and they’re watching you, they go, ‘Oh, this is what, Pablo’s really good at…We know that we can trust him to go to be physical or to make a bold choice,’” Peterman explained. “So I think they’ve dialed that up. The writers have sort of gotten a chance to, like, see what we do and how we work together.”
“I think that’s the lovely thing about season two is everyone has a little bit of, I kind of compared to like, you know, you’ve had your belt on, and then you sort of let go and take it down another belt loop. Like, everyone’s like, we’re at season two, let’s play, let’s bring it all,” the actress continued. “…You know, you’ve had your belt on, and then you sort of let go and take it down another belt loop.”
Season 2 is also dialing up the character pairings. Isabella and Gabby will spend more time together, and viewers will get to see other characters mix with each other.
“I felt like I had really great moments with Isabella. Like Gabby and Isabella kind of level up that relationship, which I really did,” Peterman said. “I mean, in season one we weren’t often alone together, and we have a little bit of that.”
Their costar Belissa Escobedo recently told NBC Insider why she loves being on the show.
“It feels like… being part of a resurgence of sitcom television, and that’s very special, and so I’m feeling so lucky,” she said. “Reba is an angel, so it’s awesome to go to work every day and have her be at the forefront.”
The new season will have guest stars Christopher Lloyd, Carol Kane and Cheri Oteri. It premieres this Friday, Nov. 7, at 8/7c on NBC.
