Andrew James Allen, who plays Pontius Pilate on THE CHOSEN, recently spilled all his secrets in a playful video called “The Spy Who Fed Me.”

Elijah Alexander, who plays Atticus, a spy in THE CHOSEN, interrogated (interviewed) Allen over a bowl of his favorite comfort foods — pasta Bolognese and a plate of smoked salmon.

“You know, every time my parents would have friends over, it’s like a plate of smoked salmon and cheese. So, yeah, it makes me think of home,” Allen said.

Allen was a child actor and was 13 when he started booking popular movies and shows.

“LIZZIE MCGUIRE was the first thing that I did and then I started doing some other shows,” he shared.

Allen’s mom gave up “everything” for Allen so that he could be an actor.

“Those months that we were in LA were the months that she saved up her vacation from work so that we could come and so that I could work,” he said. “Unconditional love has been like one of the greatest gifts in my life. She means everything to me.”

On Mother’s Day last year, Allen dedicated a post to his mom on social media. He said, “You guided me to my dreams, taught me how to be a man I am proud of, and kept me on my feet when I stumbled. Your journey to building such a beautiful life and family from humble beginnings fills me with deep pride and admiration for you as a person and a mother. When I think of the place you came from and where you ended up, I get a lump in my throat.”

Allen told Alaxander that when he had the opportunity to audition for Pontius Pilate, he was unsure about it because of his age.

“Originally, the character was written older,” he said. “My manager, I guess they lowered the age and my manager said, you know, they want to see you. I was like, ‘Are you sure?’”

After Allen read the script, he decided THE CHOSEN was something he wanted to be a part of.

“I just thought it was so good. And I connected with the character,” he said. “There was so many layers to it and it was all on the page… And then like I think it was probably a month and a half later, they just called me.”

Allen tries to bring his own “vulnerability” into his character.

“You know, externally he looks sort of gregarious and confident and internally he’s very vulnerable and maybe a little insecure,” Allen said.

Alexander changed the subject to show Allen an emo-esque picture of himself from a decade earlier, which made Allen cover his eyes in embarrassment.

“What a great picture,” Alexander said.

“I think the picture is okay except for my long sideburn of hair. I don’t know what is happening there,” Allen said.

“It reminds me of that old saying, the hair makes the man,” Alexander joked, adding that Allen looked like he was in a band or TWILIGHT.

“That was the time of TWILIGHT,” Allen said, “which I read for but didn’t get. So, obviously I wasn’t that vampiric looking.”

Some of Allen’s other roles have been in CRIMINAL MINDS, BONES and S.W.A.T.

The next season of THE CHOSEN will premiere next year or in early 2027 at the latest.
