President Trump announced America Prays, a new initiative emphasizing faith, ahead of America’s 250th anniversary.
“As we prepare to celebrate two and a half centuries of freedom, I am inviting America’s great religious communities to pray for our nation and for our people,” he said in a statement posted to the White House website.
Trump continued, “From the beginning, this has always been a country sustained and strengthened by prayer. So important, if we bring religion back stronger, you’re going to see everything get better and better and better. You are going to see it get better and better. So, as we chart our course for the next 250 years, let us rededicate ourselves to one nation under God.”

America Prays asks Americans to spend one hour a week praying for our country and its people and encourages them to engage in online prayer groups organized by sites like Pray.com and Hallow.
“America was founded on faith, as we know, and I’ve been saying it for a long time. And when faith gets weaker, our country seems to get weaker. When faith gets stronger, as it is right now, we’re having a very good period of time,” Trump said, via CBN.
The President continued, “We’re dealing, as you know, with all of the different — and not just evangelicals and Christians… — we’re dealing with lots of different faiths, religions. And I’ve felt for a long time that, you know…if a country doesn’t have religion, doesn’t have faith, doesn’t have God, it’s going to be very hard to be a good country.”
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said, “We all believe just that we’re called for a time such as this. We all believe that we’re fighting for the soul of America but also, fighting for what is good and right, and fighting for our God. And so this president’s next step of having prayer and services as a part of that, as we celebrate America at 250, I’m just so proud to be a part of this team every single day.”
Faith leaders have also lent their support to the initiative. Franklin Graham, President of Samaritan’s Purse, said, “Our greatest battles are fought on our knees, and through America Prays we can join together to ask God to guide and protect this land.”
“America has always turned to prayer in times of challenge, and today is no different,” Troy Miller, President & CEO of National Religious Broadcasters, said. “America Prays is an opportunity for millions of Americans to unite their voices before God for our nation’s future.”
America Prays is a wonderful way to celebrate this milestone anniversary of our country, as well as connect with other Christians around the United States through prayer.
