Falcons running back Nathan Carter reminded his followers that they should seek godliness first and foremost when searching for a spouse, rather than focusing on how appearances.
“Every person faces two life-changing decisions. The first and most important is accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The second is choosing who to spend the rest of your life with…” Carter wrote on Instagram. “Too often, we look for the wrong reasons because our expectations are misguided. The world, pornography, Hollywood and movies give a false formula for finding a spouse.”
“We focus too much on physical attraction while overlooking the qualities Scripture calls use to value: faithfulness, kindness, a servant’s heart, and a genuine love for God. We follow these outlets and end in disappointment instead of turning to the God of love for guidance…” the athlete continued. “Men, physical beauty fades, but inner beauty lasts. Find a woman who stands with you, supports you, and loves Jesus above all. Find a woman with a servant’s heart who values others above herself. When God reveals the right one, do not wait.”

Carter met his wife Madison while he was still in college and was impressed by her faith. He has been outspoken about their relationship and getting married young, not shying away from committing to her even before he graduated college.
“I’ve got the ring right here – I met my wife Madison when I actually first transferred here in January,” Carter said in 2024 when he was playing at Michigan State. “We’ve been dating for eight or nine months. I proposed to her in September. Thankfully, she said yes, and [we] got married in May.”
Along with talking about his marriage, Carter also uses his platform to spread the gospel and discuss his faith at every opportunity. He often writes about his faith on social media and invites his fans to follow the Lord with him.
“When we look at the world, through our phones, news channels, or television, we often see violence, destruction, persecution, and negativity,” Carter wrote in September. “It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that this is all there is, that beauty and goodness are nonexistent around us. I’m not denying that these things exist. The brokenness in our world is real. But I want to invite you to look at the world differently…not by ignoring what’s wrong, but by intentionally focusing on the good, on hope, on something greater.”
“If the world discourages you, I understand. The good news is that there is hope,” he added. “Instead of dwelling on what’s broken, we can turn our eyes toward the source of restoration. Specifically, someone greater: Jesus.”
In a world where celebrities often use their platforms to chase worldly things, it is amazing to see Carter instead use it to share godly wisdom and encourage his fans to follow things that are good and true.
