ZOOTOPIA 2 is having a field day at the box office.
The animated movie came out on Wednesday. Currently, it’s the highest global animated opening of all time at $556M, beating China’s NE ZHA 2 by over $100M. It’s the fourth highest global opening of all time and the highest global debut of 2025 ahead of China’s NE ZHA 2, Deadline reported.
That’s not even nearly all.
ZOOTOPIA 2 scored the highest global opening for an animated sequel ever. It’s the highest global opening ever for Walt Disney Animation Studios, beating MOANA 2. It’s the highest global opening for any animated film in Disney’s history and the highest global sequel opening of 2025 and since 2021, when SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME took the title. It’s the biggest opening weekend increase from original to sequel for any animated franchise (239%).
It was the No. 1 movie globally, domestically and internationally for last weekend. It also earned the second highest Thanksgiving Day of all time after MOANA 2 and the second highest Black Friday of all time after MOANA 2. It’s the second highest domestic Wednesday before Thanksgiving of all time, after MOANA 2.
It’s another huge marker for Disney, as Disney now holds nine of the top 10 Thanksgiving opening weekends of all time.
ZOOTOPIA 2’s success isn’t surprising. An uplifting Christian, moral worldview will always be a major draw for families.
Part of Movieguide®’s review reads, “ZOOTOPIA 2 has a strong allegorical Christian, moral worldview. It stresses sacrificing your life to help others and find truth, a society where everyone has agape (selfless) love for others, working together with your partner, doing the right thing, seeking truth and justice, overcoming differences to become one in spirit as suggested by Galatians 3:28 in the New Testament, and correcting a grave injustice.”
The movie is the second best non-local film opening of all time in China and the highest animated opening of all time in China for a non-local title. It’s the highest non-local film cume in China since 2019 and the highest-grossing non-local animated film of all time after five days in China. It is the highest single-day gross of all time for an MPA film in China and the highest MPA opening in 2025.
ZOOTOPIA 2 is the highest international opening of all time (actual reported), the highest international animated opening of all time (MPA) and has the highest Walt Disney Animation Studios international opening of all time.
It also has the highest Hollywood international opening of 2025 and opened #1/#1 MPA in almost all markets (except for the UK and the Philippines). It is the highest Walt Disney Animation Studios opening of all time in Poland, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and Bolivia. It’s the highest MPA opening weekend of France, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
The movie triumphed over WICKED: FOR GOOD.
Friday through Sunday sales were $96.8 million for ZOOTOPIA 2 and $62.8 million for WICKED: FOR GOOD. NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T made $7 million. PREDATOR: BADLANDS made $4.8 million, ABC News reported.
ZOOTOPIA 2 is filled with fun family entertainment, so it’s no wonder it was such a big hit.
Movieguide®’s review reads, “The movie also teaches a strong, righteous and conservative pluralism, similar to America’s celebrated motto of E Pluribus Unum, or Out of Many One. Thus, the different animals in ZOOTPOPIA 2 overcome their differences to create a more harmonious social order under one set of values, based primarily on love, kindness and mutual respect.”
Families won’t want to miss catching this hit in theaters.
