Eric Lloyd, who played Charlie in the original THE SANTA CLAUSE movies, revealed what he knows about potential future seasons of THE SANTA CLAUSES series.

“I don’t know,” he said when TV Insider asked about whether there will be a third season. “I haven’t been told anything. Haven’t gotten any calls about it.”

“The last season two was the last one to air. And I don’t know there’s a three yet, but it could always happen,” he said.

Season 2 aired in 2023 on Disney+. Tim Allen returned as Scott Calvin/Santa, as did Elizabeth Mitchell, who played his wife, Carol/Mrs. Claus.

The series depicts Scott’s rocky road to retirement. He couldn’t find a successor, so his son, Cal, went into training so he could take over the job when he was old enough. Cal ran into some hiccups, and Scott lost some of his magic.

Season 2 ended with a teaser. Bad guys Mad Santa and Olga attack the North Pole, and Scott and Carol were last seen preparing the elves for battle.

“The show is a giant hit for Disney+,” executive producer Jason Winer said previously. “A Season 3 feels…while it’s never a certainty, it feels like we got a good shot.”

“So, we literally bend over backwards to connect our series to the original movies, and create Easter eggs for the fans, and we have so many cameos though, and so many roles, frankly, that we would love to make, and hopefully we get to do a Season 3, and we can scratch all those itches for the fans,” he added.

The show hasn’t been outright cancelled, and cast members have said they are open to returning to THE SANTA CLAUSES, so its future is up in the air.

Allen’s latest project is his sitcom, SHIFTING GEARS. The series’ third episode gives a nod to his former role when his character says, “You don’t know how many years it took to convince her that I wasn’t Santa Claus,” speaking about his character’s daughter.

Screen Rant theorized that Allen could be too busy with SHIFTING GEARS, and that’s why there hasn’t been another season of THE SANTA CLAUSES yet.

SHIFTING GEARS Season 2 is still on air and has not been renewed for Season 3. The first season did very well for ABC, and if the second one does, too, it’s likely to get a third season.

Allen’s previous sitcoms, LAST MAN STANDING and HOME IMPROVEMENT, had nine and eight seasons, respectively.
