Hasbro signed a deal with Peacock to bring a scripted murder mystery based on the board game “Clue” into development at the streamer.

“We think of entertainment as a long-term brand development pipeline,” Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said during the company’s Q3 earning call in October. “There’s some revenue associated with it. It’s advertising that pays for itself.”

“We tend to not announce a development deal, we tend to wait until it’s actually in production,” he added, noting that there are currently 45 to 50 Hasbro series and movies in the works. “Those are starting to go through, and probably in 2026 there will be a lot more to share.”

The unscripted CLUE series is one of three projects now in the works based on the game. Sony is working on a movie, while Netflix has secured the rights to an unscripted show.

“Like so many families and friends over the years, we’ve gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it – making ‘Clue’ a source of nostalgia that everyone shares,” Jeff Gaspin, the VP of unscripted series at Netflix said the show was announced at the streamer. “Thanks to the incredible vision of our partners at Hasbro Entertainment, IPC, and B17, we’re delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition that will invite today’s audiences into that iconic world.”

The CLUE series at Peacock will fill the murder mystery role at streamer which was left open earlier this year when it did not renew its show POKER FACE for a third season.

Meanwhile, this heavy interest in adapting Clue comes as Hollywood has placed a strong emphasis on mining established IP for TV shows and movies. For the most part, this has meant adapting video game stories into a new medium. But toy companies have also gotten in on the action. Mattel has used the opportunity to push many of its brands, and Hasbro is following suit.

“Our vision for Mattel Studios is to collaborate with leading creators to make standout quality content based on Mattel’s iconic brands that will resonate in culture and appeal to global audiences,” Mattel Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ynon Kreiz said after the company announced it was opening its own studio.

As Hollywood continues to evolve, it is interesting to see where it has turned for inspiration for new shows and movies. While iconic games like Clue have received adaptations in the past, it is fascinating to see it in a spot where three different projects based around the IP are now in development.
