Rapper Nicki Minaj has reignited her relationship with God!

“When I was like 10, 11, 12, I started going to church in New York, and, it changed everything, changed my life for the better because I was going every week,” she said while speaking at this year’s Turning Point USA AmFest, adding that she had been raised Christian as a child in Trinidad.

Minaj continued, “I was hearing the Word of God be preached, and then I was going home and I was applying it to my life. Even as a little girl, I learned how to pray very early.”

She would go on to be baptized at the age of 13 and, while she acknowledged she has not always been perfect, has done her best to stay connected to her faith.

“Sometimes, I would wake up and feel so far removed from…fellowship,” Minaj explained. “I used to go to church on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Three days out of the week. Then later on your life, you become busy, and you start thinking that ‘God is in my heart.’ …But then sometimes you can be in an industry as well that pulls you away even more.”

The rapper continued, “Lately I’ve been feeling like, you know, like if you haven’t seen a long lost best friend for, you know, for a long time, and then you bump into them again, that’s how it’s been feeling for me, like just going back to God and praying and talking to Him, and you know, and he said to me, ‘Where were you? Where’ve you been? I’ve been waiting on you!’”

Minaj has become an outspoken advocate for the Nigerian Christians who are currently facing serious persecution.

“This is about standing up in the face of injustice. It’s about what I’ve always stood for,” she said while speaking at an event organized by the US embassy to the UN in New York that called for the protection of Christians in Nigeria.

Minaj continued, “Religious freedom means we all sing our faith regardless of who we are, where we live and what we believe.”

She also tweeted about the issue, writing, “On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other grounds is sinking sand. All other ground… is sinking sand FREE THE CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!! STOP THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #FreeChristians”

Minaj’s faith has been a support for her over the years; now, she is supporting other Christians and calling for the end of religious persecution.
