ZOOTOPIA 2 hopped right into a new record as the highest-grossing animated movie ever, and it’s no surprise to Movieguide®.
As of Sunday, it’s made $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office. The previous record holder was Disney’s INSIDE OUT 2 at $1.69 billion, The LA Times reported.
“This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible,” said Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman.
Disney Animation announced on Instagram, “Hisssstory has been made. 🐍 #Zootopia2 is now Disney’s biggest animated movie of all time!”

The movie about a bunny cop, her fox partner and their new snake frenemy made $390 million in the U.S. and Canada and $1.31 billion overseas, and it’s all thanks to its family-friendly appeal and wholesome message.
Part of Movieguide®’s review reads, “ZOOTOPIA 2 is an action packed, heartwarming fantasy adventure with loads of laughs and great animation. It has a strong allegorical Christian, moral worldview. It stresses doing the right thing, even if it means sacrificing your life, working together, seeking truth and justice, and overcoming differences through love.”
ZOOTOPIA 2 has a 91% score from Rotten Tomatoes’ critics and a 96% audience score.
The movie made $610 million in China alone. The first movie was also a hit in the country, and Shanghai’s Disneyland even has its own ZOOTOPIA section.
ZOOTOPIA 2 is also 2025’s highest-grossing Hollywood movie, Cinema Blend reported. It’s helped Disney to be the first studio to make over $4 billion in the worldwide box office this year. CBR said it’s the fastest PG movie to ever cross $1 billion, which it did in just 17 days of its release.
Chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios and co-director, Jared Bush, said, “Everyone at Disney Animation put their heart, soul and passion into this film to tell a story full of joy, imagination, and incredible thoughtfulness This milestone means the world to us, because more than anything, it means audiences are coming to theaters for a shared experience of watching this movie on the big screen, everyone together, from all walks of life around the world — and that is a ZOOTOPIA dream come true.”
The first ZOOTOPIA movie featured lovable characters and a message that people enjoyed. It appealed to all ages, much like ZOOTOPIA 2. So it’s no surprise that a movie like this would rocket to success. The most successful movies appeal to everyone and include moral messages.
ZOOTOPIA 2 will be available on Disney+ sometime later this year.
