Chip and Joanna Gaines are celebrating 23 years of marriage.
“My forever home sweet home,” Joanna posted on Instagram, along with a carousel of photos of the couple over the years. “Happy Anniversary @chipgaines #23.”
The couple tied the knot in 2003 and have since welcomed sons Drake, 21, Duke, 17, and Crew, 7, and daughters Ella, 19, and Emmie Kay, 16.
“What we’ve realized in 22 years of marriage…is we still feel like newbies,” Joanna said in an interview with PEOPLE last year. “Anytime you unlock a new thing, and you do it together, it only grows your relationship.”
The couple shared that they had started taking dance lessons together, which Chip joked felt “strange” and “awkward” at first.
“It’s hard to make eye contact with even your best friend and wife of 22 years,” he explained. “But then after two or three weeks, we started looking forward to those lessons. It was this sweet reminder that all of us could use refreshes and challenges in our relationships.”
Joanna reflected on the couple’s wedding in a 2022 interview with PEOPLE, telling the outlet her favorite memory of that day was “when we said goodbye to everybody, got in the limo and ate so much food!”
“Weddings are kind of scripted and you’re doing a lot,” she explained. “You can forget why you’re really there. And for me, I was really there because I wanted to be with Chip. It will always be my favorite memory — when that limo door shut and we just ate like kids with our hands. It was Beef Wellington, mashed potatoes and two different kinds of cake.”
Chip has also spoken about their relationship and his commitment to being the best husband and father he can be.
“When I look out across the whole landscape of my little corner of the world, there are plenty of places where I fall short,” he wrote in a 2021 article for the couple’s Magnolia Journal magazine. “But there are other commitments — the big ones — that I hold on to with everything I’ve got. Honoring Jo, being a good dad, my faith, trying to do what’s right even when it’s not easy, building something that helps other people. Those are commitments I’ve made that I won’t compromise. My nonnegotiables.”
He continued, “No matter how much the details and circumstances of my life may change, and no matter what storms come my way, you watch: I’m going to get those right.”
Congratulations to the Gaines’ for their 23 years of marriage.
