Presidential biopic REAGAN, starring Dennis Quaid, will get a special rerelease for America’s 250th birthday on July 4.
Limited group screenings will be available in over a dozen cities on July 4. There will be a wide release in approximately 600 theaters in September. The rereleased movie will include an additional 10 minutes of unreleased footage that includes moments between Reagan and his wife in the Oval Office and a scene between Reagan and his alcoholic father, Deadline reported.
The new runtime will be about 2.5 hours, MovieWeb reported.
Director Sean McNamara said, “One of the hardest things about directing a feature film is leaving behind incredible moments on the cutting room floor. I’m so happy to have some of my favorite scenes back in the film for audiences to experience them for the first time.”
The movie covers President Ronald Reagan’s life from his childhood to his last days. It also focuses on his fight against communism.

“For some reason, they thought I would be the guy,” Quaid told MovieWeb in 2024. “And I didn’t think I was the guy…So, it took me a while.”
“I went to the Reagan Ranch, and going there, I could feel him as a human being; kind of his core was there at the Reagan Ranch. And I realized Reagan was a humble person… I think a lot of people got rich during his administration. But he was a humble man,” he explained.
Eventually, as Quaid found out more about Reagan and those who knew him, he felt he could relate to him — especially as an actor.
“Ronald Reagan never really got fulfilled as an actor. He never got to the place he wanted to be. Was he a good actor? Sure. And he was married to Jane Wyman — a giant talent who won an Academy Award,” he said. “I was married to Meg Ryan — who transcended my career while we were together as well.”
Howard Klausner, who wrote REAGAN’s script, told Movieguide® what made Reagan a memorable president.
“This guy loved people,” he said. “He loved his country. He loved his wife and his family. He loved God, and he loved the sense of mission that was bringing down the Berlin Wall. He was one of the most humble people that ever lived, always making fun of himself…he was just so comfortable in his own skin.”
Movieguide® gave the biopic a +1 rating.
Part of the review reads, “Dennis Quaid gives a bravura performance in REAGAN as the beloved President, union leader and movie star. He’s just as good during the more intimate scenes as he is in the iconic public scenes… The movie’s focus on Reagan’s fight against communism gives a strong narrative structure to REAGAN’s stirring story of faith and patriotism.”
What a wonderful way to celebrate 250 years of America.
