HAROLD & KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY

What You Need To Know:

In HAROLD & KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY, an Asian American and an Indian American fly to Amsterdam to smoke pot and find a beautiful American girl Harold knows there. On the plane, they are arrested for terrorism when panicked passengers mistake Kumar’s secret marijuana bong for a bomb. Back at the airport, a fanatic officer from the Department of Homeland Security sends them to the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo. They head for Texas to get help from the White House connected fiancé of Kumar’s old girlfriend. Eventually, only a dope-smoking, foul-mouthed President George W. Bush can save them. In the end, Harold and Kumar hook up with their one true loves in Amsterdam, where they can legally smoke all the marijuana they want.

There are actually some very funny scenes in this movie. Even so, the core message is that society should legalize marijuana. Furthermore, the movie’s content is filled with strong foul language, strong sexual content and many explicit shots of people’s private parts, especially women. People of faith, values and wisdom will correctly find it abhorrent.

Content:

(PaPaPa, HoHo, PC, AP, B, LLL, VV, SS, NNN, SS, AA, DDD, MM) Very strong pagan worldview with a pro-marijuana message, strong homosexual references including three scenes with jokes about male homosexuality and one erotic lesbian scene, some politically correct jabs at the American military guards in the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay and at President George W. Bush and his father, plus a positive theme about finding one’s true love, which reflects (probably unconsciously) the biblical command about men and women becoming one flesh; at least 222 obscenities, 10 strong profanities and eight light profanities; strong violence includes men tackled and held down, guns are drawn, deer shot, man knifes dead deer and puts carcass in sack, man’s forehead gets sprayed with deer blood, fighting, man knocked out, men with parachute fall through roof, threats of violence; strong crude sexual content includes two scenes of homosexual kissing, references to incest, man holds bottomless party instead of topless party, and men visit brothel; many shots of lower, upper and rear female nudity, a couple shots of full lower male nudity, and some shots of rear nudity; alcohol use and drunkenness; many references to and depictions of marijuana use in a nearly constant pro-marijuana message and President George W. Bush says he has laced his pot with a little “blow” or cocaine; and, one government officials is over the top gung ho and acts stupidly and often in a racist manner, one protagonist violates laws and rules but with bad consequences.

More Detail:

The core message of HAROLD & KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY is that society should legalize marijuana. There is a sub-plot about finding your one true love, but it’s almost an afterthought.

In the story, an Asian American, Harold, and an Indian American, Kumar, are flying to Amsterdam to smoke pot and find a beautiful American girl Harold knows is visiting there. On the plane, they are arrested for terrorism when Kumar secretly tries to smoke pot from a special smokeless bong he made. A passenger thinks he’s a terrorist with an explosive device. Kumar says, “It’s just a bong,” but all the panicked passengers shout, “Bomb!”, and both men are tackled and shackled by air marshals. Back at the airport, they are grilled by a fanatic officer from the Department of Homeland Security. The officer won’t listen to the sensible advice of his colleagues. He sends Harold and Kumar to the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

At Guantanamo, Harold and Kumar escape from being sodomized by a guard when two Muslim terrorists pull a jailbreak and knock the guard unconscious. They hop on a boat full of illegal immigrants from Cuba, which is headed for Miami.

In Miami, they contact one of their friends, who’s holding a “bottomless party” full of half-naked women. Their friend loans them a car so they can drive to Texas, where they hope to get help from the White House connected fiancé of Kumar’s old girlfriend, Vanessa. Along the way, they encounter an incestuous hunter and his sister and hitch a ride with actor Neil Patrick Harris, who’s stoned out of his mind and takes them to a whorehouse full of buxom women (important fact of record: in real life, Harris has publicly announced that he’s homosexual). Eventually, it will take no less a figure than a dope-smoking, foul-mouthed President George W. Bush to save Harold and Kumar from Vanessa’s duplicitous fiancé and the crazy Homeland Security dude hot on their trail.

There are actually some very funny scenes in HAROLD & KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY. Not the least of these are the airplane arrest scene and the scenes in the car with Neil Patrick Harris.

That said, smoking marijuana occurs throughout the movie, as does very strong foul language. Furthermore, the movie contains strong sexual content, including overt homosexual references, and many explicit shots of people’s private parts, especially women. The movie’s political content consists mostly of its pro-marijuana message, though the film does take a few potshots at the American guards in Guantanamo and at President Bush, whose character in this movie laces his marijuana cigarettes with cocaine. Even so, some of the comedy about Bush is not offensive, and the movie shows that the other government officials working in national security are intelligent and sane.

Ultimately, it’s the marijuana message, the explicit nudity, the foul language, and the crude sexual elements that are the most offensive, excessive and abhorrent. In the end, Harold and Kumar hook up with their one true loves in Amsterdam, where they can legally smoke all the marijuana they want. Perhaps, hell would offer them all the smoke they want.
