I CAN ONLY IMAGINE star Dennis Quaid recently shared how he became a true believer in Christ.
“I read the Bible again, cover to cover,” Quaid told Kingdom Story Company this week. “And I was what, 36? And this time, it was a completely different experience.”
“That’s the way it is, is you get older and stuff. Every time you read it, it’s a different experience cause you’re reading it from a different point of view in your journey and that’s when the red words of Jesus really struck me,” he explained. “And I realized what it had been all along was to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.”
His mother actually told him as much in the past, but he hadn’t listened at the time. He realized that a relationship with Christ was more philosophical than he thought.

“…and experiential, but this was somebody that you could really talk to,” the Teddy Bear Award® winner explained, “and… give Him all your sorrows, all your pain…Everything that was real about living.”
“That’s when I started developing a personal relationship,” he told PEOPLE in 2023. “Before that, I didn’t have one, even though I grew up as a Christian.”
Quaid’s latest role as Arthur Millard in I CAN IMAGINE 2 comes to the big screen on Feb. 20.
The first movie explored MercyMe singer Bart Millard and Arthur’s complex relationship and how Arthur came to know Christ amid a battle with cancer.
“The gift that Arthur gave to Bart was that Bart did not have to carry that around for the rest of his life, which would be a heavy, heavy load. He broke that chain and freed Bart as well. Just a beautiful, beautiful story about making the impossible possible,” Quaid said in 2018.
Part of Movieguide®’s review of I CAN ONLY IMAGINE reads, “I CAN ONLY IMAGINE is a powerful, heart-rending story of redemption and reconciliation found in Jesus Christ. Dennis Quaid is terrific as Bart’s father. Bart Millard described his father as a monster and someone he hated, but who transformed into a man and who became his best friend and a role model. Void of objectionable content, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE warrants only a light caution for younger children because of tastefully executed abusive violence.”
The second movie focuses on the band’s newcomer Tim Timmons, played by Milo Vetimiglia, who carries great talent but also hardships and secrets.
Revelation forces “forcing him to face his past and repair his relationships with Sam and his wife, Shannon (Sophie Skelton), before fame costs him what matters most. Based on the heartfelt true story behind the hit single ‘Even If,’ I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2 is the inspiring next chapter of faith, family, and finding God in the fire,” the synopsis reads.
