She is miraculously cured when she accidentally falls 60 feet into the hollow of a tree. This faith-based family drama features a mother and father who lean on each other (and God) in a time of crisis. Scenes with jeopardy and children’s diseases may be intense for young children. This one is a tear-jerker, so have a box of tissues nearby.

LOVE COMES SOFTLY is a Hallmark movie based on the novel by Janette Oke. Set in the Old West, it tells the story of a young widow who must build a new life with a widower and his daughter. It shows that Godly compassion and understanding can heal all things. The film contains a strong Christian worldview extolling biblical wisdom. LOVE COMES SOFTLY has light language and mild violence. It’s a romantic film more suited for teenagers and adults. As far as Hallmark movies go, this is one of the better ones.

THE CASE FOR CHRIST is a faith-based drama based on the book by Lee Stroble. It follows a journalist who attempts to disprove Christianity when his wife’s new-found faith challenges his atheist beliefs. It’s a thought-provoking film that explores the evidence of Jesus’s crucifixion and resurrection. The movie contains a solid biblical worldview but has light language and mild violence. Best of all, THE CASE FOR CHRIST is an investigative film that provides Biblical answers for atheists or Christians who might be questioning their faith. It’s a transformative story from the director of another great film, DO YOU BELIEVE?

GOD’S NOT DEAD is an inspiring, evangelistic movie based on a book of the same name about a college student who challenges his philosophy professor’s curriculum when asked to sign a pledge that God is dead. Several lawsuits involving the place of Christian faith in universities inspired the plotline. It features a strong Biblical worldview that could spark a fascinating conversation for small groups, making it a solid pick for a men’s ministry discussion group. GOD’S NOT DEAD is an exceptional movie with a great soundtrack.

THE BLIND SIDE is a mainstream Hollywood movie that delivers a faith-based message. It tells the true story of a Christian family who welcomes Michael Oher, a homeless young man, into their home. The movie contains very strong themes of Christian faith and pro-capitalist worldviews. There is light violence, language and references to sex. Despite these missteps, THE BLIND SIDE is an uplifting and powerful movie appropriate for the 12+ crowd. Football fans should add this one to their must-watch list.

LEFT BEHIND is the film adaptation of the best-selling novel written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. It follows a group of survivors after an apocalyptic event sends the world into chaos. The film contains a powerful message about the rapture with a very strong Christian worldview that shares the Gospel with viewers. There is quite a bit of violence and mature themes, so caution should be used for young viewers. LEFT BEHIND is a powerful film for the 14+ crowd.

SOUL SURFER is an inspiring movie based on the real-life accident of a young surfer named Bethany Hamilton who lost an arm after a shark attack. She overcomes her own fears to return to the water. It contains a strong Christian moral view and a story about faith that teaches girls about the power of courage. Viewers cheer Hamilton onto victory. Parents should know there is light violence during the shark attack, which might frighten younger children. SOUL SURFER is better suited for older children and teens, making it a thrilling option for book lovers and movie buffs.

The story follows a down-on-his-luck coach with a losing team who faces their fears on and off the field. Through prayer, the coach learns the importance of serving God over winning football games. He rebuilds the team, revival breaks out in the school and miracles unfold. The film has a strong evangelical worldview. Parents should know there is mild football violence.
