5 Faith-Filled Stars to Watch During Super Bowl LIX
By Movieguide® Contributor
The Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl LIX this Sunday, and many players’ faith will take center stage.
Check out what these five players have said about God as they get ready to head into the big game.
PATRICK MAHOMES
Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes has spoken on his faith many times on the field.
After the team’s win against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship, he gave God the glory. “First off, I want to give all glory to God. Without Him, none of this is possible, and I truly mean that,” he told the press.
During Super Bowl LIX media availability, Sports Spectrum asked Mahomes, “Who is Jesus to you?”
He replied: “Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Someone that I look up to every single day to decide what I want to do with my life and how I want to live my life. And so, Jesus is everything to me at the end of the day.”
SAQUON BARKLEY
The Super Bowl will wrap up Eagles running back Saquon Barkley’s best season of his career. In just his first year with the Eagles, he has rushed for over 2,000 yards.
“I don’t think it’s ironic the year that I try to really home in and grow my faith, I happen to have my best season. I don’t think that’s ironic at all,” Barkley told Sports Spectrum. “You know, I’m not gonna sit here and tell you that I know the Bible in and out. It’s something I’m learning. I’m challenging myself to get better at with my family and my friends.”

“I’m really lucky that my agent, he’s a pastor, and I’m able to have Bible studies with him, and just growing,” the running back continued. “I think that’s the beautiful thing about it, and I think that’s what religion and faith is, is having a relationship with God and understanding who Jesus is. And that’s what I’ve been trying to do this year, and imma continue to try to get better at it. But my faith is everything, and I know that I wouldn’t be here without the man above.”
JALEN HURTS
Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts knows that without Jesus, he wouldn’t be in the position he’s in today.
“I think my faith has always been a part of me,” Hurts told Sports Spectrum’s Matt Forte. “I’ve always wanted to root myself in that and keep him in the center of my life and everything that I do. And so, you know, through the highs and the lows, He’s greater than all of them, and that’s something that I can always acknowledge, and on the field because of circumstance, I can always lean on and remember. And so that’s something that we all should probably take note of and listen to.”

BRANDON GRAHAM
Eagles’ defensive end Brandon Graham has been out with a shoulder injury since week 12 of the season. But he’s relied on his faith and teammates throughout his recovery process.
“Being able to have those open conversations, sometimes in private, of like, you know, ‘Man, can you pray for me on this?’ You know, seeing people show up to Bible study, all that stuff,” Graham said during media availability. “Some teams, you might only see three or four. Man, sometimes you see half the team. Everybody grows at different times. But this year, I feel like we got the majority of believers on this team. And I think that, you know, people not scared to be open with their faith. That’s all He wants. He wants the glory for it so he can make sure that you good. So, I think for us, I’m thankful to be a part of this team, and it’s sucks that we only got another week together.”
JEMEL SINGLETON
While at media availability, Singleton, the Eagles’ running backs/assistant head coach, described to Sports Spectrum’s Jason Romano what it’s like for him to be at Super Bowl LIX.
“I am truly blessed. It’s one of those things when you look at the year and the ups and downs of the year, and just really, the ministry I’ve been able to have in our running back room has been unbelievable,” Singelton said. “And I like said it none of this happens without our Lord Jesus and our Savior, and the fact that I’m at the Super Bowl for a second time. It still blows my mind. It’s just unbelievable, but I know I wouldn’t be here, none of us would be here if it wasn’t for him, and the things that he’s done to help lead me this way.”
