A MINECRAFT MOVIE continues to level up as it reaches more milestones. The video game-based film has now earned a spot among the top 75 highest-grossing movies of all time.
Box Office Mojo shows A MINECRAFT MOVIE in the 75th spot, having grossed $930,696,673 worldwide. SHREK 2 from 2004 sits ahead of the film in the 74th place, with a worldwide total of $932,530,034. It surpassed BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, which previously held the 75th place.
This isn’t the first major milestone the film has conquered. So far, it is the highest-grossing domestic release of the year and the No. 2 highest grossing movie worldwide.

Movieguide® celebrated A MINECRAFT MOVIE’s “uplifting worldview,” adding that it “is a funny, light-hearted tale with deep meaning. It has a strong redemptive, morally uplifting worldview where people find meaning, strength, love, and courage in friendship to fight evil. A once self-absorbed character risks his life to save his friend.”
Movieguide® notes, however, that “has lots of action violence, some light foul and crude language, rude humor and some scary images.”
The film has also been nominated for a Kid’s Choice Award, the winner of which will be announced June 21. Stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black and Emma Myers were all individually nominated, which may be a tough voting choice for fans.
A MINECRAFT MOVIE’s Instagram shared the news, and fans were thrilled.

“Congratulations to everyone! Such a great family movie. 💕” one user said. Another person joked, “Winner winner jockey chicken dinner 😂😂😂”
Along with Black, Mamoa and Myers, the cast includes Sebastian Hansen, Jennifer Coolidge, Rachel House and Danielle Brooks.
A MINECRAFT MOVIE is just the latest in Hollywood’s recent trend of video-game inspired films, and thanks to its success, more might be in the pipeline.
“If there’s going to be any kind of ramifications of A MINECRAFT MOVIE doing so well, it is going to be studios obviously salivating for the chance to take some IP, whether it’s ‘Grand Theft Auto,’ ‘Call of Duty,’ or even Fortnite and Roblox, and try to figure out a way to do movies around those if it means they could potentially bring out that big of an audience,” said Variety’s Kaare Eriksen on the “Strictly Business” podcast.
Only time will tell if the film industry creates, or doesn’t, more video game-themed films, but for now, A MINECRAFT MOVIE is now available to rent or purchase on digital.
