ABC Picks Up THE ROOKIE for Season 7

By Movieguide® Contributor

ABC’s THE ROOKIE has been renewed for a seventh season.

“The renewal comes amid strong ratings for Season 6,” Deadline reported, adding that Season 6’s premiere episode was the show’s “most-watched episode in nearly six years, with 11.92 million Total Viewers across platforms after 35 days of viewing.”

A description of THE ROOKIE’s sixth season reads, “John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, has used his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior. Nolan feels like it can’t get much better, now that his life with Bailey (Dewan) is moving forward, and he has chosen his career path. However, he and his team must grapple with the aftermath of their recent assaults before they can move forward.”

The season isn’t over yet, but the show’s stars are already teasing an epic finale.

“It’s big,” cast member Eric Winter, who plays Tim Bradford, said of the upcoming episode. “There are a lot of reveals, and as far as Tim and Lucy, they have some fun stuff together — including another great action sequence that they get involved in. For Tim and Lucy, it leaves you with a nice sort of, I wouldn’t say closure or a guarantee of anything, but it leaves it in a place where there’s stuff to talk about.”

In addition to starring in the show, Fillion also serves as an executive producer on THE ROOKIE. Movieguide® previously reported:

Actor and producer Nathan Fillion and his longtime producing partner, Michelle Chapman, launched a production company – Collission33 – and have booked a first-look deal with Lionsgate.

“I am incredibly excited about expanding my relationship with Lionsgate. eOne (which Lionsgate acquired in December) has been a tremendous partner with Michelle and me on THE ROOKIE and THE ROOKIE: FEDS,” Fillion told Deadline. “This partnership represents a remarkable opportunity to tell meaningful stories and create content that resonates with viewers across the globe.”

Fillion and Chapmans’ THE ROOKIE – which they executive produce – is heading into its sixth season this spring. The duo also executive produce the show’s spinoff, THE ROOKIE: FEDS. Fillion is also slated to appear in the James Gunn’s DCU as Guy Gardner, an iteration of the Green Lantern.

Lionsgate is excited to continue collaborating with Fillion, whose “career has been marked by outstanding performances in television, film, animation, and video games. Fillion brings a wealth of experience and creativity to the studio,” Lionsgate said.
