Though the New England Patriots cut wide receiver Kendrick Bourne last August, he sees God’s plan, as he played an incredible season after getting picked up by the San Francisco 49ers.
“There’s just no growth in comfort. That’s simply what it is,” Bourne said of what God taught him through the experience, per sports analyst Cayden Kubler. “You know, you can’t change if you don’t get challenged, if you don’t convict yourself on things you do wrong or question yourself about things that you didn’t do as good.”
“So I think that’s what God taught me: just don’t get comfortable, always trust Him, always push myself,” he emphasized. “And I get the result from that. And that’s kind of what happened.”

Bourne has relied on his faith for his entire football career. In 2017, he went undrafted, but instead of giving up, the wide receiver worked twice as hard to make it to the NFL.
That’s when “San Francisco gave me a shot, and I took it. I made the team, earned my reps, and proved I belonged. Four seasons, a Super Bowl run, and a reputation as one of the hardest workers in the room,” Bourne wrote on his website.
Then the athlete was traded to the Patriots.
“In 2021, I signed with the Patriots. New team, same mission: outwork everybody. That season, I hit career highs in receptions and yards. More than that, I found my voice, my confidence, and my calling,” he said. “In 2023, I tore my ACL. That injury could’ve been the end — but it became the reset. The comeback. I leaned into my faith. Into my purpose. And I came back stronger, hungrier, and more focused than ever.”
Now, his mission is way bigger than football.
“It’s about faith, family, and giving back,” the wide receiver declared. “My family is my foundation — they’ve been with me through everything. Their love taught me to lead with heart and stay grounded. Now I’m doing the same for others — through the Bourne Blessed Foundation, my music, and the energy I bring every day.”
Now back with the team he got started with, Bourne is ready to work even harder.
“I’m not done. Not even close,” he exclaimed. “I’ve seen what happens when you bet on yourself and trust God’s plan. This is just the beginning.”
Despite being cut right as the NFL season was kicking off, Bourne trusted in God. During his season with the 49ers, he collected 551 yards with a total of 37 receptions.
