Alexa and Carlos PenaVega Talk Co-Starring in Movies: ‘It’s Awesome’

Hollywood power couple Alexa and Carlos PenaVega sat down for a candid conversation on “The Unplanned Podcast” with hosts Matt and Abby Howard.

The duo are vocal about their faith and cover topics ranging from marriage to the realities of working in the entertainment industry. They discussed what it’s like to co-star in Hallmark movies as a married couple and how much they enjoy the creative freedom.

“It’s awesome,” Alexa said. “It’s hard when he’s a diva on set. Please, no way. I’m joking. I’m totally joking. No, it’s great because we know our limits.”

“If I’m working with another guy, I don’t know how much I can play around with him. I don’t know how much, like, okay, like if I ad lib is he going to be able to go back and forth with me or is he going to be kind of stuck.” She went on to say that other actors are like deer in headlights when she changes the lines and that listening is a crucial part of acting in a scene.

“We play around on set,” Carlos said. “If I think that she’s being too rigid, literally, like in the middle of a take, I’ll just start like—”

“Poking me,” Alexa added.

“And she’s like, stop, and I’m like, you know you can do it better, and it’s like we have that flexibility, whereas I think if I was with another girl doing a scene, I couldn’t be like, ‘I think you can do that better,’” he joked.

Abby pointed out their romance seen on the screen is real, and Alexa noted that despite the lack of chemistry of other married on-screen partners, the PenaVegas have undeniable chemistry on the set.

“Yes, but a lot of people say that they don’t like watching couples on screen because there’s no chemistry because they know each other so well that there’s not like this, like, flirty back and forth. But we’re so flirty in like real life that we just have so much fun together, and you’re so cute,” Alexa added.

“It’s a good vibe, you guys,” Carlos said.

The couple has been open about their rough pregnancy with their fourth child on social media. Alexa updated fans on Instagram from the hospital after a pregnancy scare.

Movieguide previously reported:

The couple revealed they are practicing four months of abstinence during pregnancy and postpartum after Matt posed this question: “I was overhearing, though, do you guys have to be abstinent for four months in marriage?”

“Well, basically, what happened was we’re about to have our fourth child, number four,” Carlos said. “We had a little scare the other night. She [Alexa] basically had to go to the hospital. We thought the baby was coming early. There was a little bit of blood. Like, oh no, what’s going on? Baby’s okay, mommy’s okay.”

Alexa shared that she had been having contractions but was only 32 weeks pregnant. “I’m trying not to go into labor right now,” she explained. “Carlos had been out of town for the last two weeks dealing with a couple of things, and he came back to all of this, and obviously, we’d already abstained for two weeks, and the doctor said that abstain until I give birth but then after you give birth you can’t [be intimate] for six weeks.”

Carlos jumped into the conversation. “Here’s the dilemma I’m having. We want the baby to come later because it’s healthier for the baby,” he continued. “Let’s hope to get to 34 or 35 [weeks]. The longer that the baby takes, it’s prolonging me, too.”

“It’s okay, the baby could come now. It’s fine,” Alexa interjected.

“If the baby comes today, then that six weeks starts today versus six weeks from now. Is that wrong? I’m kidding,” Carlos quipped.
