Alexa PenaVega Talks Reality of Being a Child Actress: ‘It was Like Summer Camp’

Alexa and Carlos PenaVega sat down with Matt and Abby Howard on “The Unplanned Podcast” to discuss marriage, parenthood and their experiences in the entertainment industry. Alexa opened up about what it was like to be a child actress on the set of the film SPY KIDS.
“As far as, like, being a child actor, I had the best time ever. I mean I was literally playing dress up every single day, doing something that I loved, something that was so unique and fun and while, yeah I didn’t have a normal childhood, I didn’t know any other way, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way,” she shared.
Matt asked Alexa if she had any untold stories. “I feel like there must be some, like, funny things that must have happened on set,” he said.
“Well, SPY KIDS, for the second one, there were so many kids on SPY KIDS 2 set that that was the best filming experience I have ever had ever ever ever ever because, I’m 13 years old, and it’s like right when you’re crushing on guys, you know?” Alexa replied.
The actress revealed that between the child stunt doubles and child stand-ins, she had plenty of kids to get into trouble with between takes.
“We had like this secret break dancing room in the back of set that we like broke into, and nobody knew that we had access to this room,” she continued. “So like, all like 15 of us kids would pour into this room. We put down…cardboard, and we’d all like blast music and break dance in there.”
“But then nobody could find us, and nobody would be able to shoot anything ’cause they’re like, ‘Where are these kids at?’ and we’re just hiding in this, like random room and like airport hangar that we had found.”
“It’s just, like, fun. It was like summer camp,” she said.
Carlos and Alexa announced on Instagram that they are slated to co-star in their first movie for Great American Pure Flix.

The streamer’s new movie, MR. MANHATTAN, follows “Mason Bradley (Carlos PenaVega) [who] makes a promise to his brother and sister-in-law to be godfather to their newborn son (and future children). Mason has exciting news of his own: he’s just been accepted to Columbia Law School, which comes as a shock to his fiancé, Dani (Alexa PenaVega),” a summary reads.
